[Solved] Nexus 10 with old version (2014) of UT on it - anyway to update it?
-
Hi, I have an Nexus 10 with an old version of UT on it that I installed in 2014 (does my memory serve me!). I have searched on the forums here and it looks like the Nexus 10 was dropped as a development platform in 2017. Is there any thing I can do with my trusty Nexus 10 to bring it back to usefulness with UT? Or is it a case of just trying to get Android back on to it? Thanks for you attention.

@mtnorbeach These are the current supported devices as I guess you know https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/ So I'm going to guess you still have the original canonical Ubuntu Touch on it. Is that the case? You may well be best just putting android back on now.

Hi @Lakotaubp , yes that's right, it must be the original Canonical Ubuntu Touch on it. Thanks for confirming what I feared.

@Lakotaubp hey, I'm just coming back to this now I have some time on my hands! Any pointer to where to start with putting Android back on? After my previous post I did spend some hours researching how to do but didn't get anywhere. I pointer on where to start would be so helpful - thanks.
UPDATE: I can get into the UT recovery mode (CWM -based) Recovery v6.0.4.6!

Try to see on XDA maybe.

Hi!
You'll find available Android images on
https://developers.google.com/android/images
nexus 10 is
https://developers.google.com/android/images#mantarayDownload the archive that fits your device, you'll need fastboot and adb installed on your PC, and follow the instructions of the Readme within the .zip.

Thanks @Keneda and @hankschwie
I have started a thread on XDA, here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-10/help/how-to-restore-android-nexus-10-version-t4088061
When I do: adb devices, no devices are listed!?
Any ideas?

Sorry i went to work, just come back home now.
UPDATE: found it
system settings > about phone > developer modeGlad you found anyway. So you succedeed going back androïd?

Hey, after activating Dev Mode, and trying a couple of different USB cables, things worked out. The only other sticking point was that I had to remove -w from flash-all.sh and then the stock image installed fine. I'm super happy to have my Nexus 10 up and running again after 5 years in a box. Already getting lots of use out of it
Thanks for your help. I don't think I would have found Dev Mode otherwise
I'm going to update my OP and add the solution. -
I can't edit my OP, I guess due t anti-spam measures...
UPDATE (26/4/2020): I resolved my issues by installing stock Android back on to the Nexus 10.
My problem with getting remote access to the Nexus 10 was a mixture of a bad USB cable and/or USB port. I also had to activate "Developer mode" on Ubuntu Touch: Settings > About Tablet > Developer Mode. Once I got a connection the command: adb reboot-bootloader worked.
I installed the stock Manta image (as below). I had to remove the -w from the flash-all.sh and then the image installed. I've got a shiny Nexus 10 to use again.
BACKGROUND
I can get into the Ubuntu Touch recovery mode, version: (CWM -based) Recovery v6.0.4.6, on the Nexus 10, using the key combination: hold down both up and down volume buttons and then press power button.
I have followed the following post but I’m stuck at the command: adb reboot-bootloader - How to restore Android.
Regarding which version of Android to restore onto the Nexus, I have downloaded a copy of stock Manta from here, which, when unzipped, includes the flash-all.sh script.

Great for you, too bad you got to go back androïd because no UBports update for you...

@modos you know what to do :grinning_squinting_face:

@Keneda, yea, I had such high hopes back in 2015. I bought the Nexus especially to put UT on it. I had an Ubuntu Phone at the time too. It looked like I was breaking out of the Google-sphere, only to be sucked back in by the monster

@scottishfreedom, you certainly made my day! With just a few words, you allowed me to swiftly restore my Nexus 5 to the factory image. This old phone will now make someone else very happy. Thanks a lot!
