I was going to suggest trying another sim tray. One of mine is worn and the slot is. The tray can go in the wrong way round. Restarting normally fixes your issue. It is not a UT issue as I have another OPO that has no sim issue at all.

We do our utmost best here at UBports to help solve issues and problems as they come in. As a bunch of volunteers we are are not always here but someone normally has an answer or advice quite quickly, especially if you asking in a polite friendly way πŸ˜‰ Yes these issues are frustrating and can result in bouncing phone syndrome πŸ™‚ Stick with it, it's well worth it. Things are getting very interesting round here. now.

@Mr-Smartyman I understand your frustration, but not your attitude. I've been through this with my Nexus 5. You expect the same service as you would from Android or iOs, but you forget that is a community driven project and to be honest, they did an amazing job. Just count the members of the forum: they are under 5000 people and maybe just 10% (I`m just guessing, I'm just a user without know-how) have a background in development and majority of them earn nothing from this or way too little, maybe losing time and money in fact. UT makes aprox. 75€ pro week from donation (maybe this had change). If you can do better job with 300€ pro month and unpaid developers, than go ahead. This people ow you nothing, maybe viceversa. If you are better than them, show them. Hell, we have an operating system, an alternative to the monopoly. It's not perfect, but considering the resources, that's a hell of a good job.
        Take it easy!

@Mr-Smartyman I am using the Oneplus One since 3 years as daily driver and never had any issues with the SIM card. So I am 100% sure this is not a software problem. Ubuntu Touch uses the same Android driver than any Android ROM so its highly unlikely we messed it up.

Thank you for all the replies. I'm going to play around with it more today.

You have all been more helpful than my initial post warranted and I truly appreciate it.

as promised, here's the solution. I cleaned the contacts on my sim with alcohol and placed a piece of tape on the back of the sim card.

So far so good with mobile network. Many other issues, but at least this one is solved.

@Mr-Smartyman said in I'm sure it's been asked before but...:

I'm sorry. I'm frustrated. I need to take a few deep breathes before I post next time.

I expected installation issues. I've rooted enough phones and run enough custom ROMs to expect that. I got through the installation in about an hour without too much trouble. No big deal.

Finally got it booted up and found the UI underwhelming. Ok, I started to get antiquated, try to customize a little, got some apps so I could customize a little. It's fine. I'll get used to it.

So, I put my SIM card in and boot up. Can't see it. Out and back in, nothing. Couple more reboots and it sees it. Hooray! Then after about 30 seconds, it can't see it again. While just sitting there. Reboot, no luck. Out and back in, no luck.

When finding an answer to a problem with one of the "promoted devices" became such a challenge, that's when I became frustrated.

I'll get back to it at some point soon. As for now, I need my SIM in my other phone.

I will certainly post the solution when I figure it out.

Apology accepted. Frustration is certainly trying of one's patience. From my limited experience, I wonder if trying a new sim card might help. Do they ever wear to the point where they may be faulty? How about The sim slot? Who is your carrier? If Verizon, maybe your difficulty is a symptom of Verizon blacklisting Nexus 5 and maybe OnePlusOne. Is your phone VoLTE enabled? Maybe these are only uneducated guesses.

@Mr-Smartyman Thats good. But please - as I said before - change the title of this tread, so anybody with the same problem can find in this forum easier an answer.
That was a point you were annoyed about.

                      For example:
[solved] Oneplus One intermittently recognizes SIM card

@Mr-Smartyman Yes I agree with @thilov Can you change the title and mark as solved. Use the three vertical dots and press edit. Any problems let me know and I will sort it. Thanks
