      A better way to port on androïd based devices?

          @Keneda Hi,

          I don't think it will help in any way.
          But maybe users of proton mail might want to use their claim for an open and free internet and ask for a native app for Ubuntu Touch.

          Maybe they can be patrons for UBports...

              I'll elaborate 😉

              They just released the source code to their mail client.
              An app for android is Java based and it doesn't work on UT.
              We can use the source to create a native app for UT but the android app's sources won't help much.

              And you asked about porting to devices ; I don't see a connection.
              AOSP stands for Android Open Source Project so it's already accessible.

                I don't know how works UBports on androïd devices but assumed that there is an androïd layer that UBports needs to go with (for hardware parts as i understood), so i wondered if having source code from proton androïd would help with this layer.

                Like you can figure, i'm not a coder, so it's an artless wondering.

                  Protonmail is only an app. It has nothing to do with the underlying Android system, and we strip out all the stuff that would let Java apps work anyway.

                  Also, there are already thousands of open source Android apps available, as well as documentation for the Java APIs, which still doesn't help for porting devices.

                    Maybe one angle how the app being open source could be useful is if a developer wanted to make it work well in anbox, then they would have more leverage to debug or tweak things to make it work in that environment ... just 2cents ... (maybe just 1 and a half cents really, I have never even tried anbox myself LOL)
