We are pleased to announce our latest update for @Pine64 #PinePhone. Look out for better screen off battery life and mobile network indication in the top bar. Go to Settings, Updates and update your apps first then download the latest update.

i updated to version 53 yesterday, coincidence that i checked at the right time.
CE and BH show good improvements.
the CE stayed at 91% for over 6 hrs when idle
feeling more confident about the daily driver scenario

I agree. v53 works nicely. Any comments on how the progress is on the Camera?

@Marathon2422 Watch out for the battery percentage. It's inaccurate coming from a deep sleep most of the time. You'll see it update after some time of being awake. I don't think 91% is real after 6 hours. It's most likely around 50%. Sorry to burst your bubble 😅

                nice update :beaming_face_with_smiling_eyes:

seems to also have fixed my problem with calls not working again after a restart so now I don't have to mess with the cellular settings every time I restart the phone anymore.

I’m obviously out of the loop here. When did calls over 4g start working? I was just sitting here at my desk messing around and I happened to get a phone call, was able to answer it, and hear the person on the other side fine and also be heard. Keep up the great work. I’m also getting more comfortable with using this as my daily phone OS.

For me Pinphone still cannot be treated as daily phone. People reported me several times that they tried to call me but couldn't reach me despite of the fact that my Phone was online. Sometimes text messages appear only after the reboot. Those issues are already reported on gitlab so it seems that i have to wait for the next update.

I got my Pine Phone about a month ago, and am eagerly awaiting the next update. I'm hoping some of the more obvious problems are going to be fixed, such as the headphone jack problem, the SD card problem, and the battery problem.

Does anyone have a time-frame for the new update? It's been close to 2 months since the last update, so I was hoping there would be a new update soon.

@joelandsonja Unfortunately, there are still major issues that's stopping to release an update in the stable channel. I would suggest switching to Release Candidate channel to see the current improvements and changes. You can go back to stable easily....unless channel switching is bugged as well 😅

I really think there was a huge ambiguity for many buyers to think that the Pinephone community edition could work right away as a smartphone for everyday use: and it's not for now at all!

@domubpkm aw, come on. Having to stop and start ofono to make a call seems totally ready for daily driving 😝

If you want the most from a Pinephone atm the development channel really is the place to be. In the past 3 weeks I have seen it go from hot all the time with no battery longevity and flakey connectivity, to actually cool to the touch sometimes and reliable connectivity if I handle the mobile/wifi switching myself. Progress is slow but steady, and I think the devs have a lot to be proud of. My BH edition was nigh unusable and had to be powered off to charge as the modem just sucked power all the time when I first got it.

Now, if dtmf codes would send while in a call, I could survive the Pinephone as a daily driver (survive, not flourish). Frankly I'm impressed with where we are at and it is only getting better.

I would consider the Pinephone as a replacement for the OPO. It seems to me the relatively small group of devs have gone through great length to get UT working on Pinephone, great job!

If Pine64 is going to release the next iteration with a 5,000 mAH battery, 4G calling, camera app working and further optimizations I will definitely order these for my family. When all issues are ironed out and PineTab will be at the same level by then or Pinebook shell case (like NexDock Touch) with Pinephone docking/insert, buying bundles should be a no brainer.

@Giiba I don't speak for myself. I realized long ago that progress would be very gradual. But some users are impatient because all they have is only a Pinephone for daily use.

@kugiigi - I gave that a shot, but sadly a lot of the problems I've been having are still present. I can see that they're making a lot of great progress, so I'm excited to see where the phone's at in 6 months time. 😃

That's what I did. I've run Ubuntu Touch on an OPO purchased used for almost a year now, and I can't wait for my Pinephone to be ready to take its place. The OPO has superior specs but it's riddled with issues I am sick to death with. Randomly losing wifi, losing auto-rotate both necessiting a reboot; but battery indicator stuck at 50% after reboot, I need to reboot up to 10 times in a row before it goes back to normal.

Anyway, sorry for the rant, this is supposed to be about the Pinephone... I know it's going to take a while to iron out the issues.

@domubpkm That's me all right. I've actually never been interested in owning a smartphone until the Pinephone was announced. Now that I have one in my hands, I am very excited to use this thing as my daily phone! I'm hoping there will be more updates coming soon.
