Remove google captcha from registration

@herr-b Yeah, I am annoyed as well because of them plus the Google ads. I am on non Google OS, non Google search engine, non Google browser, why do I still see them! But I guess it all comes down to the site you visit.

Because, just like Amazon and Microsoft, a significant amount of infrastructure relies on them. There is no total escape from any of them, if you want to live in modern society and use the Internet.
-
I agree it is not easy to escape totally from google, amazon and microsoft, but it is easy to make a registration form without google captcha ...
-
@dobey
Any internet site can live without google captcha or any other of its "services"... -
I think the point waiting to be made here is that without captcha (or an equivalent) is that bots etc. will mass register and spam the forum? I can't remember if you have to verify via email when you sign up to the forum though, so I could be wrong. My knowledge of said practices is basic, to say the least.

@Loops Email is checked against known list of spammers etc will find forum post on such

The problem, at least for Europeans in the near future, is the strong authentication required by the DSP2 (second part of the European directive postponed to March 2021 at the latest) for certain banking transactions.
Concretely, the sending of validation code by sms in the long term being doomed to disappear, banks will have to use biometric recognition of their customers or to have their customers log on to the bank's mobile app (I also think that the biometric recognition system is on the bank's mobile app). I don't know if a bank's biometric recognition can be done outside the application, i.e. on a simple web page of the bank.
Clearly it should eventually be impossible for some operations to do without google ''services'' because they are used in the android or ios applications of banks. This should force everyone to use an android or ios phone and make it impossible to do without the GAFA !!!
UT will have to quickly develop biometric recognition (this should I think be operational faster for the Volla phone) but this may not be enough.
To overcome the intrusion of googles services, Lineage os uses MicroG. I don't know if this could be implemented under UT as part of a functional Anbox. And even if it were possible, if it could make banking applications usable.
To conclude, as explained by @Flohack who is European, he do with an UT phone, but he also already can't do without an Androรฎd phone anymore: I don't know if it's love for the last !

@Lakotaubp Makes sense. Thanks.
-
@domubpkm, I think you might have posted in the wrong thread. This thread is about the use of ReCaptcha on the forum registration page.
I've turned off ReCaptcha on the registration page, and we'll need to wait for the forum to reload for it to take effect. We'll see if it has any effect on the spam registrations on the forum (right now we have at least one per day).

To correct you, Florian is very much a European, Austria is an EU member. I believe he uses android for certain apps only, Car sharing being one, possibly banking. Some companies only cater to android or iOS users, sometimes it's easier to just by a cheap android phone to be able to use those services than to purposely make your own life just that bit harder.

@UniSuperBox Yes. You're right. This thread is about ReCaptcha in priority but it also discusses the intrusion of google services. Hence my comment. You can move that elsewhere if you want
-
@Lakotaubp Error corrected. Deleted NOT ! Thank you. Yes Austria is in Europe !!! Austria is not Australia!! I apologize for that @Flohack ! I'm sure it's never been done to him before!

I'm a moderator on the Linux Mint forum. We get lot more spam than that; we deal with that by eyeballing (human moderators, well... some users have their doubt about the 'human' part ) But we can handle that because we probably have a larger mod team.
We also get more traffic. -
@Keneda While perhaps that my be ideal for your own goals, reality is not so simple.
-
@domubpkm I am livin in Austria, what are you talking about and I donยดt have love for Android, rather I need to use the tools that make things work, if needed.
-
@Flohack I sometimes have trouble with my geography and my English! ๏ธ Sorry again !

The forum is now restarted, you might test the change...

@Flohack
What?
