Seems to me Volla Phone, PinePhone, OnePlus 3/3T, Sony Xperia X series, PineTab, perhaps Google Pixel 3A, and whatever Xiaomi/Redmi device is looking to be easiest to fully support, would all make sense
Agreed that the focus should move toward newer phones. But I think that your list may be a bit too ambitious for the near term. Sometimes less can be more.
I realize that most won't agree with me on this, but in my opinion, in the near term, UBports should focus on making the upgrades needed for rebasing UT to 20.04 (and also moving to a more recent version of Mir).
Then, once UT has been rebased on 20.04, UBports should focus on (1) the PinePhone, and (2) working the kinks out of the UBports Generic System Image (GSI) project on just a few modern Android devices, with the goal of eventually supporting many more modern Android devices using the GSI approach.
Oh, and Lomiri on x86-64 devices. Don't forget Lomiri on x86-64 devices.
QUESTION for Q&A: Honest question (and not an attempt to troll), but why is UBports devoting valuable resources to bringing Halium 7.1 to old devices when those resources could, instead, be devoted to working the kinks out of the UBports Generic System Image (GSI) project, which has the potential to, eventually, bring UT to a great many modern Android devices?

Quick question from space:
How can we get more people on board to work on Mioil?I've been PM'd about this, so there are community people interested in getting on board. (I have a dinner date at Q&A time, so can't participate in real time.)

Is it possible to have like a "minimize" option for running apps? Tapping on the icon in the launcher will open the app, tapping a second time will hide the app GUI leaving it running in the background. Think about radio or podcast oriented apps. It will be harder to mess with an app by accident when its interface is not present.

@ohnez The
newkernel
channel for the PinePhone is using kernel 5.10. -
I was wondering, why the logscreen does not rotate any more. It is fixed in rotation which is sometime a bit annoying.
-
Hi,
can we expect the A-GPS feature during the next year?
Thank you!
-
@thebest3000 I don't think the lock screen ever rotated.
-
@arubislander I think it did. Well a long time ago when it was still at Canonical.
-
@thebest3000 It didn't. Phones always have lock screen in portrait mode, and tablets/PCs always in the landscape mode, iirc. I'm pretty sure lock screen never rotated.
-
Yeah, lock screen never rotated but obviously ideally it can rotate especially with the upcoming and current fxtec devices. I think there's an open PR for it but it seems that it became stagnant.

Hello ubports team,
Thanks for your great efforts to customize diffirent ROMs for so many devices. I just successfully installed UT on my old Nexus 5. After 2-day use, I find the battery duration is not thaaaaaat satisfied:( 555
So I am quite looking forward to your development on Oneplus 6, especially via installer. It is much easier for users like me without good coding & developing skills. If there is a WeChat dev. plan in the same time, that will help a lot.
Btw, could you open more donation channels like Alipay? Since Paypal donation is not allowed in China....
Best,

@karl-zhang This Q&A has passed the next one should be on the 19/12. Could I ask that you re ask your question then. To keep upto date watch this category or on Telegram https://t.me/ubports_news

@gizmochicken Hey there my Nexus 4 is a Halium port. I don't know if it's mostly primarily phone enthusiasts here, but those ports allow people to have Ubuntu on $35 phones.... Since that is my price point for a phone. We can't all wait for the Librem 5, and I started with Linux to save an old computer. Why can't we do the same with phones? I don't know how old my phone is but it works great to me.

@totalrando
Hi, as stated before, the Q&A has passed.
To avoid confusion/mistakes with the future Q&A, please create a new topic if you want to continue the discussion further.BTW The question you're referring to has been answered in Q&A those ports are mostly made by the community, so support for older phones will continue if the community is willing to.
I'll lock this thread, but feel free to open a new topic and answer there.
