Software Patents in Europe - again...
-
The European patent office is trying again to pass legislation that would bring their unitary (i.e. Europe wide) patent into force despite the European Parliament having rejected it.
Here is an appeal for help against this attack on open source software: -
@ubuntoutou i'm not sure i understand... There are already patents on proprietary software - what's new here ?
-
The situation in the European Union is not the same as in the United States.

@emphrath In Europe, software patents are not legal but in spite of this, the IPO (European Patent Office) does not hesitate to register them even if they have no effect in the European courts.
It is a battle that has been going on for a long time in order not to arrive at the very harmful situation that prevails in the USA (or, for that matter, a reverse movement to start opposing it exists).
