OPO - screen not working after installing an app
-
Hello,
I am a new user of UT on Oneplus One. So far everything was fine and I really enjoyed the experience. But today I tried to install an app from the openstore, dataMonitor. After installing it I made a reboot, opened the app and opened the settings. It made the screen freeze. As everything was stuck (I could not even open the launcher), I turned the device off by pressing the power button.
But now it looks like the device is bricked. When I try to start it, the screen shows a weird mosaic, as if each pixel was displaying a random color. I cannot get anything else, even when I turn the device off and plug it in (which should show the charging animation) or when I reboot into recovery mode (it does boot into recovery, I can check it via adb, but the screen is like dead).
Any idea ? Not the first time that I mess a phone, but it is the first time that I manage to do so by simply installing an app... -
Maybe reinstall with ubports installer, without wiping any data if you want to keep it.
-
@keneda Unfortunately I did not activate developper options on the phone, so I cannot reinstall with the installer. It simply does not detect the phone...

@pookie
Ah.... Sad... I let more skilled people help ^^ -
Very strange... I managed to make a clean install of UT using the fabulous installer - the device was not detected but I just had to select it manually. I even wiped the data in the process. But it didn't work... The screen is still like dead.
I am wondering if it could not come from the hardware, but I do not see how the hardware could have been damaged by such a small bug. -
@pookie I am inclined to think this is down to coincidence rather than the app. It is more likely that just restarting caused something to fail on the screen.
-
@lakotaubp Yes, I guess. But still, nothing happened to the phone, did not fall, etc. Everything was fine until I installed dataMonitor, I made the reboot and it killed the screen. Usually such a reboot by long pressing the power button should not harm the screen.
I tried to flash the stock ROM, it did not solve the problem, so now it is clearly a hardware-related problem. I also disassembled the device and checked the connectors.
Well, I guess that this will end my (very) short career on UT. -
@pookie You have just been unlucky. I have that exact same app installed on two of my devices without major issue. However I did have a OPO battery fail without any prior warning after a restart.
I hope this does not put you off returning and trying UT again, you will find it most rewarding. -
@lakotaubp Looks definitely like it is a hardware-related problem : I noticed that, when I turn the screen on and off repeatedly, there are some changes on the pattern (meaning that the LCD is not dead), and I even managed, once or twice, to have a 5mm-band at the top of the screen with UT indicators on purple ground. If so, then I should be able, perhaps, to make it work by a more thorough investigation of the connectors, or simply by changing the screen.
So far I really enjoyed UT. Many aspects of the OS are simply excellent : the keyboard, the design, Dekko 2... -
I managed to save the phone simply by removing the back and playing with the screen and the battery connectors ! Problem solved !
-
@pookie Good result! Welcome back to a usable UT phone.

@lakotaubp Well, I will need to change the screen all the same, the problem reappears from time to time. I hope I will be ready for OTA-16 !
