Yes it does. So they ask you 359 euros to have in one year a phone that is available right now for 270.

RE: Volla phone (is back and) will be a new UT phone in 2020
@Ingo
Well yes, Fairphone is the only successful example I know, for several failures (Ubuntu, Jolla...). I guess that fairphone offered a product that could find a broad audience, bring ethics in the smartphone world. Good shotBut for volla, what do they promise? Another piece of hardware. Okay, we have already too many of them and it becomes difficult to make a choice. A new android-based ROM focused on privacy. Well, the design looks okay, but nobody cares about this. There are already so many ways to tweak android... Ordinary people don't care about privacy and think that when they have an iPhone they're as far as they can on that point. People who really care about privacy already have solutions (Lineage with microg, /e/), some of them easily available for non-techs (/e/ pre-loaded on a Samsung).
There is the promise that they will support UT, and only for that I could consider investing on the product, because the hardware looks far better than pinephone. But if it is simply a clone of a gigaset model, as some have said here, we could hope to have the port available even if Volla fails... -
Is UT efficient for a daily drive ?
Hello,
I am a Ubuntu user for my computer, and I am considering switching to Ubuntu on my smartphone as well. UT looks much more polished and complete than any other Linux phone OS. I would like to know if it is usable on a daily basis, without having an Android phone. Ι know it depend on the use I make of it. I am not a big smartphone user and I do not use many apps, but I only need :- Whatsapp and Signal
- An efficient mailing app with multi-accounts support
- A GPS
- A nextcloud or Owncloud syncing app
- A calendar with good caldav support
- A good web browser will do for all the rest, if possible with an adblock on it
I have seen that there are some solutions for all this on the store, but are they efficient and stable enough ? Is all the rest (phone, sms, camera, weather, calc) working without trouble ?
Also, does the FP2 multi-SIM work with UT ?
Thank you (and sorry if it ain't the right place for such questions) -
RE: OPO - screen not working after installing an app
@lakotaubp Looks definitely like it is a hardware-related problem : I noticed that, when I turn the screen on and off repeatedly, there are some changes on the pattern (meaning that the LCD is not dead), and I even managed, once or twice, to have a 5mm-band at the top of the screen with UT indicators on purple ground. If so, then I should be able, perhaps, to make it work by a more thorough investigation of the connectors, or simply by changing the screen.
So far I really enjoyed UT. Many aspects of the OS are simply excellent : the keyboard, the design, Dekko 2... -
RE: Is UT efficient for a daily drive ?
Thanks for the answer. All this sounds great. So, no full sync but is it possible to sync at least the calendar and the contacts ?
Maybe I should try to find a low-price device that supports UT and give it a try before taking any decision.

RE: Is UT efficient for a daily drive ?
No, my device is for he moment under LineageOS, and not eligible for UBports. but it will die sooner or later. I'm looking to other Android projects like /e/, but I grow more and more unsatisfied with Android, and also tweaking a custom ROM takes much time and is a bit addictive.
I was considering the PinePhone option, as the other phones are getting hard to find (N5 and OPO) or still expensive (FP2). My only concern about the PinePhone is that it looks like it has very low specs, even compared to a 5 years old Nexus. Will it work smoothly ? is the qualitiy of the product OK ? Anyway, maybe I should just buy one, if it works it's good, and if I'm not satisfied with it at least it gives money to a FOSS project, which is good as well... -

@lakotaubp Well, I will need to change the screen all the same, the problem reappears from time to time. I hope I will be ready for OTA-16 !

RE: OPO - screen not working after installing an app
@lakotaubp Yes, I guess. But still, nothing happened to the phone, did not fall, etc. Everything was fine until I installed dataMonitor, I made the reboot and it killed the screen. Usually such a reboot by long pressing the power button should not harm the screen.
I tried to flash the stock ROM, it did not solve the problem, so now it is clearly a hardware-related problem. I also disassembled the device and checked the connectors.
Well, I guess that this will end my (very) short career on UT. -
RE: OPO - screen not working after installing an app
Very strange... I managed to make a clean install of UT using the fabulous installer - the device was not detected but I just had to select it manually. I even wiped the data in the process. But it didn't work... The screen is still like dead.
I am wondering if it could not come from the hardware, but I do not see how the hardware could have been damaged by such a small bug. -
RE: OPO - screen not working after installing an app
@keneda Unfortunately I did not activate developper options on the phone, so I cannot reinstall with the installer. It simply does not detect the phone...

OPO - screen not working after installing an app
Hello,
I am a new user of UT on Oneplus One. So far everything was fine and I really enjoyed the experience. But today I tried to install an app from the openstore, dataMonitor. After installing it I made a reboot, opened the app and opened the settings. It made the screen freeze. As everything was stuck (I could not even open the launcher), I turned the device off by pressing the power button.
But now it looks like the device is bricked. When I try to start it, the screen shows a weird mosaic, as if each pixel was displaying a random color. I cannot get anything else, even when I turn the device off and plug it in (which should show the charging animation) or when I reboot into recovery mode (it does boot into recovery, I can check it via adb, but the screen is like dead).
Any idea ? Not the first time that I mess a phone, but it is the first time that I manage to do so by simply installing an app... -
RE: Is BQ Aquais E4.5 a good device to start with Ubports ?
Okay so maybe not a good idea to spend some money on this, only to be blocked a few months later. Very frustrating... I have the feeling that we are at a turning point of UT's development, but it is very hard for a newcomer to get started : available devices are old and/or rare, and upcoming devices look promising, but are only to be expected in an undetermined future...

Is BQ Aquais E4.5 a good device to start with Ubports ?
Hello,
I did not have the opportunity to find a UT device and I'm waiting for a good occasion, but I would like to know if BQ is a good start. Advantages : it's small, dual-Sim. But it is old and not powerful. Is UT smooth and fully-functionnal on it ? Will the support be continued in the future, even if the device is 32-bits ?
