[Porting] Call for Testers
-
WIFI works but I get certificate error when I visit any website. OpenStore doesn't work either because of the certificate error. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do?
Thanks for the port btw, I was waiting for this to test my apps
-
@turanmahmudov set time manually and the certification error is gone
-
I have a google pixel as a spare and ready do some testing. Let me know!
-
@turanmahmudov Time should sync when you joined a WiFi - Timekeeper might not work after a reboot, yes.
-
@gupdia Yes sure, just follow this thread and you will find my post pointing to instructions.
-
@turanmahmudov if you get telnet mode then rootfs.img was not placed correctly. Dont know what happened with your halium-install, probably you also could not push due to an excess blank in my command ? Please delete all from data and retry the procedure, we must find a way it works for all users
-
It is working perfect for me, the only thing that does not work for me is the telephone network

somehow adb doesn't continue after 90% of pushing rootfs.img with the halium-install. I tried several times.

@turanmahmudov
Have you tried another cable, bad connection can be due to bad wiring.
Also a mess in the partition table was a problem for some users recently, so I would check this. -
Excuse the question, but when will an update come out?
-
@Flohack
I would want to become a tester for Ubuntu on my smartphone.
It's a Google Pixel XL (1st gen) that have 128 Gb storage and actually running Android 10.
And I would want to completely remove Android from it as soon as possible.
I think I'll need some help to proceed to the installation since it's the first time I install Linux on a smartphone. I saw your post that explains from where to download everything and I'm not sure from where to get everything (e.g. downloads related to Porter) and if it's the right things for my smartphone (according to TWRP mine is marlin not halium ...). -
I love this project, please do not abandon it, the work you are doing makes me great
-
@lordzeed
Did they say that they would abandon this project? -

no, i just say please don't leave it i never said i left it
-
@fellfromthesky Please follow https://forums.ubports.com/topic/5533/porting-call-for-testers/14?_=1613473076161 - It should explain all steps in detail. Your smartphone is marlin, yes, Halium is not a device but the name of the common boot layer we are using...
-
Download the customization of the device: halium-boot, system and vendor image provided by porter
I don't know at all what "porter" is.
Oh you mean those files?
https://twoot.bin.org.in/nextcloud/index.php/s/iAZDDkRYYAiN6Kk?path=%2FmarlinDownload TWRP Recovery for your device: https://twrp.me/Devices/ - Note: DO NOT download the ZIP file for the TWRP installation that gained work with UT. You just need to download the .img file to get started!
Always the lastest one or a specific one?
https://dl.twrp.me/marlin/twrp-3.5.0_9-0-marlin.img.htmlOther steps should be ok.

Here, "porter" is a human with dev skills, that ported uTouch to a device, yours here...
-
It is an excellent contribution I love I had time without using my pixel but now with Ubuntu it will be the best
-
Hi guys, I'm more than interested to test it out on my Pixel XL 32GB(currently running LineageOS 18.1). Only issue with mine is that the microphone, proximity sensor and call speaker don't work. Problem is since I still use it as my daily driver I have a couple of questions to ask regarding daily usage(just to know if I have to use another device while testing).
-
Does call audio work trough Bluetooth since as I said the phone speaker doesn't work and also in the begging of the thread was mentioned that the call audio doesn't work?
-
How's Anbox support since I need to use a couple of Android apps
-
How's camera compatibility?
Excuse me for those stupid queations but I'm kinda new to Ubuntu Touch
-
-
- No, call audio wont work anywhere, the problem is the routing from the modem into the soundcard
- Anbox patches are not applied. However, Anbox is bleeding alpha, drains battery a lot and is not recommended for daily use. Most apps that use any kind of Google Play services etc wont work as well. Also its based on a very old Android, so most apps struggle with that. I think its Android 5 or so. In my opinion its a nice demo of whats possible, but not more than that.
- Camera: We cannot use any software algorithms that Google does to get the camera on its full power, but basic capabilities should be fine.
