Previous posts seem to indicate the 3a XL wasn't the focus at the beginning of the project, but the 3a XL is supported and the phones are similar enough to use the same codebase. Is this correct?

Do both phones have the same compatibility with Ubuntu Touch? Does one have better support than the other? Are there differences in development between the two? Does development for one lag behind development for the other? Is it likely or possible future updates will break Ubuntu Touch on one but not the other?

Many consider the 3a XL to be the superior phone because of its larger screen and battery. However, some might still want to get the 3a if it has better support for Ubuntu Touch.

        Thanks.

@pengaro I don't think there's any difference between the two at all other than the size, support should be identical.

@pengaro It's almost the same device and can even be installed with manual steps. The only odd thing would be the device scaling, that is tied to the non-XL version. But you can change the scaling yourself using UT Tweak Tool from the OpenStore.

For manual installation you would need to save this file locally: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ubports/installer-configs/master/v1/sargo.json

And run the ubports-installer manually using the -f flag:

            ubports-installer -f path/to/sargo.json

@fredldotme Can you explain "device scaling" or link to an explanation to it? I'm having trouble finding a good explanation. I'm assuming it is something to do with the screen display resolution.

@pengaro yes, icons and text (the whole UI) basically are tailored to the non-XL variant screen resolution, they will look bigger on the XL since that's the scaling value it has been set to. But you can change it with the Ubuntu Touch Tweak Tool.
