Thank you! I'm reading the Q&A #109 blog post. I see this question, but I don't see it answered:
"The first question was by Alter about the Nexus 5 and Oneplus 1 asking for clarification of the suggestion that they may not be supported in the future. Is it wise to advise newcomers to buy these old devices still (...)?"
Did that question get overlooked and not answered?

@moem Strong hints in previous Q&A sessions suggest these phones will be amongst the first to be abandoned. (I have a Nexus 5, while I know you have a Oneplus 1). It then becomes a matter of when that will happen. If it is to be this year then I need to investigate an alternative soon.

            I don't agree. I'm getting mixed signals. I read in Q&A 108:

UBP 5.1 is a slightly different case as it came after Canonical but it still lacks a lot of what we need. Where possible we can take devices forward to the Halium based 7.1 [thinking Nexus 5 and Oneplus One here] but if that turns out not to be possible those will also have to be dropped. If there are people in the community who want to keep the old stuff and are able to maintain it, they are welcome to do that but the core team does not have enough resources to do that.

Then again, there is the Halium 7.1 Dev test channel, both for Oneplus1 and for Nexus 5:
            https://forums.ubports.com/topic/6012/halium-7-1-test-channel/60
            https://forums.ubports.com/topic/3614/lge-nexus-5-hammerhead

This strongly suggest that there are attempts underway to bring both of these devices along to Halium 7.1, don't you agree?

I would really like to be certain, instead of relying on hints and suggestions, but maybe that is all we get for now because it's simply not known yet. If that is the case, I would love to hear this from someone in the know.

@moem All I can add is that my OPO (when I was using it) was on halium-devel and ran without issue and it still starts after weeks in a drawer, so I would give that a try. How long the OPO can be kept going even with halium not sure, for that you need an expert 🙂 but I personally would plan on moving on (even though the OPO is a great phone) it's age is showing compared to the OP5.

I have, and it worked fine. Then again, it's also working fine on RC. I'm quite happy with the way it functions.

I have a Op3 here (because it was very cheap) and am trying to install on that, but not having luck so far; the instructions may need some further refinement. I'm pretty sure it'll succeed sooner or later.

@moem Although I don't understand what Halium is, despite watching Q&As for the past year, my impression is that it is not ready for general use. In fact Florian said almost that in the topic you linked to.

Nevertheless it would be good to have an answer to the original question you mentioned.
