Will Oneplus 5 / 6 or Pixel 3a be supported when UT is updated to 20.04?
If not, what Android phone should I buy today, for it to be well supported now and after?
At this point I have a Pinephone with UT and a Pinephone Pro will arrive today according to DHL. PPP will not be supported by current version of UT and that's why I'm thinking of buying an Android too.
I bought a PP to play around with the other linux version and had no plan at all to play with UT but then I tested it. What can I say, I feel in love with it the moment I tried it. I must have a device running UT well! -
@dizzy I would get a Pixel3a, this device is apparently going to supported with 20.04 and be one of the the top choice devices. Just be aware with any used devices, the battery may not be great and need replacing. On the Pixel phones, it is really trick compared to a lot of others as you have to lift the delicate screen off the frame to get to the innards. I have a used one and the battery has been fine, I easily get over a day and a half out of it. Also make sure you don't leave the screen on too long on a single static item, as it is an OLED which succumbs quite quickly to screen burn.
This is my opinion, when a OP6 crosses my path, I will give that a go, but I am uncertain whether it is going to be ported forward yet. Tune into the discussions and read the blogs and forums before investing. My UT daily driver is an Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 which I really like, if it is not ported to 20.04, I don't care as long as it still works. -
The official answer is we don't know what devices will be supported after 20.04.
But the Pixel 3a is certainly one of them.
As well as the following devices which are used for development:- Volla Phone
- Volla Phone X
- XPeria X
The rest is completely unsure.

I hear that the 5(t) is easier to install and supposedly a real pleasure to use.

@moem I have an OP5 (non t). Like most OP phones, it was reasonably straightforward.

Sorry, I was unclear. I have installed a 5t but never a 6(/t). It seems that the 6 can be finicky.

The duration is important indeed but so is the brightness of the screen!
A lot of people seem to be wearing sunglasses when they use their phone so the brightness is set waaay too high and causes burn-in of the screen!

@mrt10001 Thanks! If I can find one...

I finally found a phone that I can actually buy. Ordered a Pixel 3a XL but it was expensive!!!

@moem If I get hold of one I will let you know....
