New version notification

My Nexus 5 is giving me a notification that a new version is available. I understand OTA-22 was recently released. The mobile is telling me the new version is "version 20". Is that the same version? Why is there a numbering difference?
Also, my mobile seems insistent on telling me about this update, even after i've cleared the notification- it just reappears several hours later. Is there a way to turn off the notification?

@fizz OTA's are numbered by the amount there have been in total from the start of UT. So this one is number 22. Updates to each device reflect the number of updates that device has recieved and so is different from device to device and update channel being updated.
To clear it you should be able to swipe down onnthe top bar with the notification indicator on it and press clear all. -

When the updater tells me this is "version 20", is that the latest version? The UBPorts blog only ever says "OTA-22", but the updater only says "version 20". I just want to be sure these are the same thing.

Yes, i can clear it and have done so, but then it just re-notifies me again a few hours later.
Ideally i'd like it to tell me if there is an update only when i ask it, but at a minimum i'd like it to stop re-notifying me for the same thing every few hours.-Fizz

@fizz As you are on stable yes the notification of an update will be for OTA-22. They have been reintroduced for this OTA for further info please read the OTA release blog.

https://ubports.com/blog/ubports-news-1/post/ubuntu-touch-ota-22-release-3835Sorry, when you say "they have been reintroduced", to what are you referring? What has been reintroduced?
I've got the new version installed now. Though there doesn't seem to be a way to disable update notfications. I can disable auto-download, but i can't disable OS update notifications. Is there a way to do so?

What has been reintroduced?
The notifications for the new OTA.

@fizz Switch of the phone then restart it that should register you have completed the update. You should not get another then till the next OTA in about 6 weeks time.

@fizz
Did you try system settings, notifications, system parameters, and untick "notification bubbles".Didn't try myself, so don't know what it does shuts really.

Ah, that might be it. Apparently the previous (OTA-21) changed that setting, because i know i had set that to not notify automatically. Hopefully that will do it.

@fizz The update notificationwas restarted with this OTA not 21 it had failed or stopped sometime back, just to be clear.

Well, i was using 21 before the update today, and it was persistently telling me for the last couple of days that there was an update available. That's the only way that i knew there was an update. That's why i started this thread; i couldn't get it to not tell me... heh.

@fizz It should keep telling you there is an update until it is installed or you turn off the notifications in System Settings. That is the whole point. If it keeps coming up after that it is a bug and should be reported as stated in OTA-22 release blog.
-
@fizz
Yes OS is telling you there is an update because you're under OTA 21 and there is OTA 22 available. But, this was not working anymore for OTA 20 to 21, and before that also.
It is not you that decided that.
We understood from the beginning the topic of this thread.
What i don't understand is why didn't you just updated and keep fighting against this update untill your post above. And as there is not any subsetting for system notifications, turning it off may lead to no notification when you receive a message (SMS) or alike.

But, this was not working anymore for OTA 20 to 21, and before that also.I'm not sure what you're saying. Your first sentence implies that the update notification was working under 21, but your second sentence says it was not working under 21.
Either way, while on 21, i was notified of the update to "version 20". I let it download and install and now i'm on OTA-22. So apparently version 20 is the same thing as OTA-22.

Basically, i had to update so it would stop notifying me! Actually, I didn't object to the update itself, i just don't want to be constantly re-notified about it every few hours.
And as there is not any subsetting for system notifications, turning it off may lead to no notification when you receive a message (SMS) or alike.
I was on OTA-16 for a long time, and never got a notification about updates from it. Assuming that the update-notification was working then, i was positing that perhaps my notification settings were reset to default when i moved from -16 to -21.
I've changed some of my notification settings as suggested, and i'm still receiving MMS notifications. So all good so far. But i'll have to wait until the next OS update to see if the OS-update notification is stopped.

I am curious why you want to stop update notification. Do you not want to know when an update is available?

Read again because you misunderstood, "under" is not "before" in my sentence.

Like already explained by @Lakotaubp, "version" and "OTA" have not the same versionning.
Version 20, for your device, becomes OTA22 once installed...The 20th update for your device is the 22th update of UBP UT, any device considered.

Read again because you misunderstood, "under" is not "before" in my sentence.I didn't take your meaning as "before". I took "under" to mean "using" or "on". Let me replace "under" to illustrate how i read it:
You said:Yes OS is telling you there is an update because you're using OTA 21 and there is OTA 22 available.
But, this was not working anymore for OTA 20 to 21, and before that also.where i replace "under" with "using". And then i said:
Your first sentence implies that the update notification was working on 21, but your second sentence says it was not working on 21.
where i replaced "under" with "on".
So the two are contradictory still. Your first says i received the notification because i was on -21, ergo that the notification works on -21. But your next line said it was not working for 20 to 21.
Like already explained by @Lakotaubp, "version" and "OTA" have not the same versionning.
Version 20, for your device, becomes OTA22 once installed...
The 20th update for your device is the 22th update of UBP UT, any device considered. That doesn't make sense though, as i have not updated this OS nearly that many times. I've updated the OS exactly twice. When i first installed, it was OTA-16. I did not do any updates until January, when i updated to OTA-21, and today i did the update to OTA-22. So if what you're saying is true, shouldn't i be on version 2 (the second update), or maybe 3 (the 3rd version installed)?

So what's unclear there ?
It was not working when phone under OTA 20 and update to OTA 21 was released, no notification then that OTA21 was available.@fizz said in New version notification:

-FizzUbports versionning is not related to you and the frequencies you update your phone.
OTA 16 was "version 14", OTA 21 was "vesrion 19" and OTA 22 is "version 20" for this particular device, and none of those versionning numbers has anything to do with you or your upgrade frequencies. -

It was not working when phone under OTA 20 and update to OTA 21 was released, no notification then that OTA21 was available. When you say "not working for 20 to 21", that means it doesn't work on 21. "20 to 21" is an inclusive statement. If you meant to say it doesn't work 20 alone, then you'd say "not working for 20", full stop.
