Android from ca vers. 5.0 on does not allow to write on the external SD card for all applications. Is the option to write to external SD card for instance with OpenOffice restored in Ubports?

There is no answer, so I assume the answer is no. Are there any Ubports devices which can write to the external SD card with all applications?

@peter-gamma what should be written to the sd-card?

The camera-app can store your pictures and videos on the SD-Card.
You could also make a soft-link in your Documents-folder which points to the sdcard. This way, confined applications can theoretically export something to it, if they have something to export.

@luksus I don t think this solves my problem. A storage card is a great device, especially when there are precous information on it. You can pull it out of the device when it is gone. And you can encrypt it, read it from a PC, keep a copy. Why is such a great option not supported anymore by all devices with all features? Someone informed me that there is at least one Linux Phone which can to this job.

@peter-gamma I just said, you can write to an SD-card with Ubuntu Touch if you want...
And of course, you can pull it out and put it in your PC.

What exactly are you trying to achieve? Can you give us a practical example?

              Encryption is another story...

@luksus For instance on a Samsung Galaxy S5 with Android 4.4. it is possible to do what ever you want with the external SD card, read, write, encrypt, pull it out and use it on a PC, etc.. Use it there, put it backe. As far as I know, not all these options are available in Ubports Community devices, but I miss this feature.

I edited title since it is not about UBports installer (i.e. installing OS on a SD card, like it might be possible for PinePhone in futur) but about Ubuntu Touch OS, wich is NOT the same.

@peter-gamma On Ut the SD card works with fat32, Ut is enabled to not recognize or block SD in Ext4. Using Veracrypt doesn't help much either, if you use it in fat32 it doesn't work in MTP, I have already tested it, you would have to remove the SD card from the phone to use it.

                    Regards...

@josele13 said in Write to external SD card possible with Ubuntu Touch?:

Thanks for your answers. I see there seems to be no easy way out except to change to another device, which has other disadvantages (availability, high price). Maybe I let go the external SD card.

Which is the easiest way to acess the internal SD to read and write files from a PC, for instance as an external drive?
