Installing on the Asus Zenfone ZB602KL.....
-
Finally got my hands on a Zenfone from ASUS. I have been looking out for one of these for quite some time. as most things with UT work on it and it gives me a good testing benchmark.
Horror of horrors realised I may have the wrong one as the installer is for X00TD and doesn't mention ZB602KL... Oh dear... So some researching later and have found that there are various numbers that have slight differences, but are much the same!
So I though lets see what happens. Was on a lot later ROM than the one mentioned in the installer and proceeded to install. First you need to unlock the bootloader, which is a very odd method, basically you have to download two files, unrar them and then run them in a terminal (used Windows 11 as you have too!), one is the Zenfone USB driver and the other is the unlock tool. Once bootloader was unlocked, proceeded to install. All went well until the reboot to recovery - not work! And the I got the red message of doom, yes, your phone is corrupt, press the power button......
Installed TWRP and formatted all the partitions and wiped Data partition and rebooted back to TWRP. So I ADB sideloaded e/O/S on and still getting the red letters of doom, it booted to e/O/S... Phew! No soft brick there then.
So reinstalled TWRP and in TWRP CLI ran the command
reboot "dm-verity enforcing"
This then reboot back into e/O/S with no red writing of doom (DM-Verity).
I then rebooted to fastboot, installed TWRP again, wiped Cache, Data, System and rebooted back into TWRP. From here I side loaded the correct ROM (the one mentioned in the installer). Rebooted and set Android 9 up. Set up developer options, USB debugging and then the UT install went very smoothly.
So far so good, no issues. Will continue messing around with it. A nice zippy phone.
I have skimmed over the install, as I made a few mistakes and had to work things out. I have lost the site I visited that laid out the Zenfone nomenclature and it mentioned slight differences between devices such as lack of NFC..

@mrt10001
Great pioneer work!
Is there a way to add it to the devices page? -
@muskist No pioneering stuff I just jumped in and used the installer for the X00TD version. I think they are all the same, but for different regions have a slight difference to account for that region. I am trying to install UT on phones from the list to see what each experience is like - experience varies! This is the first ASUS phone I have seen, let alone got hold of as they aren't popular where I am - popular phones are iPhones, Samsung, Huawei, Pixel and Motorola (I can sincerely say Motorola are by far the best new budget phones, they do as they say on the box and are so reliable).
Big thanks to the porter for this.

Hello friends, got my "new" Asus Zenfone ZB602KL these days and installed UT. I downloaded the unlock app and copied it to the phone and started it. No problem with the unlock procedure.
After the UT file transfer the installing screen apeared. It showed a Warning: something like "unknown flag resize". What does this mean? Any ideas?
The phone runs ok, but I could live without the unnecessary warning of the unlocked bootloader when it starts. Is there a way to remove this? -
@odo As far as I know (nd I may be wrong) the unlocked boot loader warning cannot be removed and appears on quite a few phones runnong UT.
-
@odo As @Lakotaubp pointed out the unlocked bootloader is impossible to remove on most devices. I have managed to do so on some unlocked Motorola phones thanks to XDA-developers forums, but there is a high risk of bricking the device so I tend to leave well alone.
-
Ok, I understand. Another question: did you try Waydroid on the Asus?
-
@odo no as I hosed my Redmi Note 7 with it(my fault) and I use UT to avoid certain apps, especially Google s own apps. The UT appstore suits my needs as does the browser.
-
@mrt10001 My thoughts too. But I also have a very short wish list: another e-mail app and a working FM radio app. Browser is ok, but I think there are better FOSS alternatives available in f-droid.

Hello again, I'd like to repeat my question posted above. I get a warning after every update (I'm on dev channel at the moment). When the UB ports logo appears while the device installs the updates I can read "warning; unknown flag resize". Can anybody tell me what this means? Is something wrong with my installation? Or is it a general issue with the zenfone? tnx in advance.

Hello, It seems I made a step forward, but I can't solve the problem. Is anybody here who can help?
I realized that I have no access to the sd card. The warning has something to do with this issue I guess. I have to repeat the warning exactly:
"E: [libfs_mgr]Warning: unknown flag resize"
Is this a known issue? -
