Hello, let me tell you that that's not going to happen, and so you should just downgrade... once you have installed UT on your phone, it will not have any Android anymore anyway.

Usually the downgrading makes the partitions the way the installer needs/expects them, so it's just something that needs to be done.

oh , okay . will do that if i have 2nd phone already .

btw , is there any development regarding dual booting instead of replacing ? so users can try it first before installing completely on the phone ?

Not from ubports, but there is some work done here on XDA i believe, but very complicated to set and not endorsed by ubports for sure.

There is even an app on the store (android and sailfish versions also exist) that can be used for that purpose (but not only) :

thanks for the reply , the project was interesting, but does ubport support installation on the 2nd partition ?

UBports fundation doesn't support any dual boot.
You can however choose wich partition you want to install on, but not in the installer i believe.
Search forum for how to do that.

My advice would be to not bother you with dual boot anyway as it is uncharted territory, it'll be simpler and safer to just save your android data and then install Ubuntu Touch, then if you don't like it, revert back to droid.

                    okay thanks ,

                    one last thing ,
                    when i visited this https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/begonia/

i have saw what works and what not , but some of the features of ubuntu for redmi note 8 pro that were listed as not working are important for me ,

                    1. Offline charging ? - does it mean that , i should not let my phone run its battery completely drain ? what if it is not avoidable ? for example i'm on trip i forgot my charger , then the battery drains completely empty. does it mean i cannot open my phone even i put the charger on it ? or it will use the charger to open the phone atleast ?

                    2. Wireless external monitor ? - this one is important on my work , i use this more often than any other apps for the presentation . is there any way that this feature will work ? or is there already an application from the ubuntu store that i can use to do wireless casting ?

RTC time ,auto brightness and loudspeaker is not really important to me , just the 2 above is important that keeps me think if i should give up android , and give ubuntu touch a try. i really love ubuntu in fact ubuntu is my primary desktop OS . that's why when i heard ubports since 2018 , i kept looking for a device that can run ubuntu on it , but since then devices that were listed on the working devices were not available on our country at that time . then when i saw redmi note 8 pro i was excited to try it but i saw the features that will not work .

No. It means that when you plug it in, the phone will boot.

Wireless external monitor ? - this one is important on my work

Then you should be sure to get a device that it works on. If it's listed as not working, I would assume that it's not working.

                        @moem ,
Thanks for the response , i think i have no other choice but to give it a try first ?

btw , does installing this will remove also my current TWRP recovery ?

if somethings goes wrong , or i found ubuntu touch not good on my redmi note 8 pro how can i switch back to android ?

i think i can switch back anytime if TWRP recovery will not be replace by ubuntu touch recovery (is it grub?)

If it's listed as not working, why would you even try it?

Yes, it will. It will install UT recovery instead. No, it's not GRUB.

If you wanted to get back, you'd reflash the stock ROM.

@jhayar0719 So don't forget to backup your android data before you install UT if you think you might want to go back. 🙂

                              hi ,

how can i reflash the stock rom ? if UT recovery replace my current recovery (TWRP)

the only way i can flash android is via TWRP
can i reflash back my TWRP so i can flash the android even the OS still in UT ?

                              thanks

Sorry, I have no knowledge of that. I have never flashed Android on any phone.
