I tried unsuccessfully to use Pure Maps yesterday for the first time in several months. Despite having location turned on and being in an open space for an hour Sensor Status showed there was no signal. Previously it has always worked, albeit the detection has been slow. Could this be another problem with OTA-23?

GPS antena is in backcover of N5, did you try to clean connectors between backcover and motherboard ?

@keneda I did that when I renewed the back cover a month ago because of erratic wireless charging, (which the new cover did not resolve incidentally.) Like you I now suspect poor connections because when I tested GPS again today it worked for a while.

For anybody wanting to fit a new rear cover, it is worth noting that as well as the half dozen or more clips around the edge, there is also a clip near the centre which must be engaged for the various pairs of connectors to make contact. Unfortunately many old clips broke while removing the back, leaving their tips in the motherboard which prevented the new clips from engaging. It was a devil of a job to prise out the broken tips and it is possible I have damaged the board.

The problems with this phone have now accumulated to the point where I can not rely on it, so I shall retire it in the coming week as soon as its Android (sorry for swearing) replacement is functional.

@cliffcoggin What is stopping you from moving on to a newer UT-supported phone?

In a word: size. All the UT alternatives are larger than the N5 which itself has always been uncomfortably large.

You're not wrong. A new, small smartphone would be a great thing to get UT support for.

@moem Agree, but that is never going to happen, so I must make alternate arrangements.

I'll tolerate the silly name for the 4 inch screen.

@cliffcoggin Good remark, this is why I have asked questions about porting UT on the Sony Xperia Z5 compact which is a good compromise between size, compatibility (the processor is an old Snapdragon used on Oneplus 2, and more or less the same family as the one in the Nexus 5), and availability (already in the market, in used condition, because it's old).

I really hope somebody will succeed to port UT in the Z5 compact.

I don't think it's very likely that anyone will spend the weeks or months that porting takes, on such an old device. It's not impossible, but don't hold your breath until it happens.

@prog-amateur Yes that would be nice but realistically it will never happen. The UT developers have too much work to take on another obsolete phone, and nobody outside the development team seems interested in taking up the challenge.

I still have an old HP Jordana, so a pocket size.
