Re: How to allow camera app to use the camera
LG Google Nexus 5. Updated. Ubuntu 16.04. (OTA 24). Problem solved. When running the "Camera" program, the rear camera is black:
-You can see the controls.
-Switching to front camera, the front camera works perfectly.
-Reboot, rear camera keeps failing.
-"UT Tewak Tool" program:
Authenticate / Menu / Apps+Scopes / click "Camera" / click "Clear" / Check = "Cache" and "Application data" and "Settings" / OK. / click "trash can icon (top right)" = Uninstall "Camera" / Restart / Program "OpenStore" / Magnifying glass, "search" / Camera / Enter / Install / Run /...
...[Problem continues]...
Next step:- Take out "SIM card".
- Disassemble Phone.
- Remove screws.
- Remove connections:
1- Battery.
2- Contact "Rear Camera" / Disconnect "Camera Connector to motherboard (pcb) / Press again "Camera Connector to motherboard (pcb) / Disconnect, connect, ... Like this, a few times.
3- Plug in the "Battery" connector.
4- Screw in the screws.
5- Place the rear plastic cover, clicks, check that they are well pressed.
6- Enter "SIM card".
Turn on the phone.
PROBLEM SOLVED...............................

@stropbu
So no need to clear and uninstall camera app, you had a hardware issue, not an OTA-24 related software one, glad you solved it. -

@keneda I also did a factory reset. Having to backup "contacts", "favorites" from the "Morph" browser, and notes. Still, the "Camera" program had a black screen, and the front one worked fine. Therefore, I deduced that it must be a connection problem, I tried and it worked.
Note: In times past, when I changed the battery of the "Lg Google Nexus 5", I verified that something was happening in the area of the micro connector, because the phone turned off randomly. I disassembled it, I checked it, I realized that the casing where the screws are housed, was slightly warped, hollowed out, I put a little piece of folded paper with several doubles, waxed, and later, a little piece of tape so that it would not move, just above the micro connector of the internal battery.
It must be that the phone heats up and the internal casing where the screws that protect the motherboard are housed, becomes warped, hollowing out. We should take this into account for other mobile phones, since all these mobile devices suffer from heat and poor ventilation, the plastic deforms and, at the slightest hit, makes false contact.
Maybe I'll disassemble the "Nexus 5" again and devise another piece of plasticized paper so that when closing the internal casing it puts more pressure.
I have disassembled it, I have put the piece of paper in the camera connector, it worked for some photos, the error returns, I have bought a camera, I hope they bring it, when I put it in its place, I will continue commenting.

The Nexus 5 has numerous plastic clips around the edge of the case plus one near the centre. All are prone to breakage causing loss of connection to the wireless charging coil and one of the antennas. I suspect that is the cause of your poor case fit.

@cliffcoggin Already. Well, the camera is bought, it comes for January 9 or 10, 2023, I hope that when I change it it will be repaired, I have been restarting several times, sometimes the camera worked, others not. I have noticed a new bug, when I go to "Camera settings" (going up from the bottom to the top) click on "Speaker" click on mute shot. This affects the general sound, after several reboots and tests, I see that it affects the volume of the call earpiece, and the sound of the general speaker, for example, watching YouTube videos, surprisingly it had lowered its volume a lot, I even installed it from the store the program "uVolMan" to amplify the sound, it does not give results, if it gives them when you reboot the phone. Curious, how silencing the camera icon affects the rest of the sounds on the entire phone, calls, YouTube videos, etc... Camera, click, settings, speaker click, click "to be heard", restart, .. Volume repaired, it's already higher.

LG G00gle Nexus 5:
-Removed rear camera from the phone.
-Installed a new rear camera on the phone "9.41 β¬uros".
-Installed New Battery "BL-T9" 2,300 mAh "12.90 β¬uros".Camera gives the same failures, black screen, striped screen, front camera works sometimes yes, other times no.
Front camera, tap* focus, click, take photo, takes a while, tap* focus, click, take photo, take photo, swipe left, looking at photo. The photograph does not come out correct, it is in a mirror, what should be on the left side, is on the right side, and what is on the right side, appears on the left side. ("Camera" program bug, no doubt!).
I can only think of two things, the most probable is due to the last "OTA" of "December 2022" (This did not happen before, it has happened since the new OTA). Browser on "telegram" pages very slow, videos of this type of pages frozen, choppy audio, the rest of the pages, like YouTube, are seen correctly, even perfect online movie websites with maximum resolution quality. Also another problem, sometimes you unlock with the power button, to remove sleep mode and access the phone's desktop, sometimes this does not work, it is not the power button. How do I know it's not the power button? Easy, you put the charging cable, with the screen in suspension (black), when connecting the cable, the "charge led" lights up, when you click the power button it turns off, when you click the power button again power on, the "charging led" lights up again, the button works fine.
It can only be the last "OTA, December 2022", I insist, this has never happened before, I am no longer going to spend more money on spare parts for the phone, it is clear that something has happened with the operating system. I suspect that it is a saturated Ram problem because sometimes the camera takes a while, from looking black to capturing something, I have seen this by chance. But, that the front camera take the photos in mirror???????
(I have screenshots of the camera and the whole process, if they tell me where to upload them, I know of websites where photos are uploaded, but after a while they expire. Could you recommend a website where the photos do not expire? Thank you. I hope I can continue helping.)

@stropbu
Just quit tested on my N5 and i can confirm i have issues with its camera. No all quite the same as you but there are.
I have the rear camera working (preview and photos taken), but once, after manual focusing on a very bright part of my tv screen, app control just vanished.
On front camera, preview is reverted, but photo that outputs is in right orientation (edit : just tested on my MX4, same behavior on front camera, maybe it's intended ?)
Also i have what you describes, manual focusing with front camera just make buttons not working for some loooong seconds after focusing finished (capture button color stays gray instead of white during that time).
Did not tested in OTA-23 and previous as it is my spare phone.
