Just a couple of issues
-
I recently set up my Pixel 3a with Ubuntu Touch. There are two things currently not working with it. First, the flashlight won't come on, and I am not sure if others here have had that issue. Second, for some reason, it won't receive picture images from my iPhone. Does anyone know if that might be an iPhone to UB issue or just an issue in general?

Hi! Welcome to UBports.
Are you toggling the flashlight under the battery setting? I ask in case Pixel 3a had some simpler way to do this under android and you're just trying that. But if the toggle in the settings menu isn't working, you'll need somebody who knows more than me.
As for receiving pictures, is that through MMS text messaging? Or photos sent by any means?
If just through MMS, have you specifically set up MMS yet or did it automatically set itself up?You'll find many threads on MMS in this forum, as it's always been a bit of an issue. Group texts are a problem across the board, but most people are able to get the rest of MMS working, ie pictures, video, etc.
What seems to work for most people is to set up two different APNs, one for MMS and one for cellular internet. I described that in this post. -
Hi @tupelohoney
I have a bad experience with SMS/MMS with Iphones.
My GF has an iPhone and I do not receive most of here SMS or MMS.
It seems to be an issue on Apple side because she has the same issue with several friends with android phones.So might not be a problem due to Ubuntu Touch.
But it cannot be totally excluded -
@tupelohoney How's the battery life on your setup..?

@TupeloHoney I run Pixel 3A XL, and do not experience the issue with the flashlight, to answer your question. I'm a newbie to it though, so I cant really give advice to fix it.
@AppLee @TupeloHoney Yeah Android users too have issues with Iphones, I remember not being able to receive images and group texts would send to people indavidually instead of to them. For whatever reason, sometimes android ships with MMS off by default, so I am wondering if it would be the same case for UT. I cannot test this easier or say for sure, beacuse I only installed a week ago and do not have a compatible carrier (Verizon, sadly not working. Supports GSM Only), but maybe it has the same issue as android phones. I recall seeing an MMS option somewhere, otherwise @wally seems to know a bit about what he/she/they are talking about.
IPhones are definently natorious to cause compatibility issues sometimes, atleast for me. if there is a setting that's slighly different, the IPhone may freak out and just do something stupid and unexpected. Usually on most devices given that the OS has enough options to tinker with I eventually figure it out. Good luck!

@tupelohoney Are you on 16.04 or 20.04?

I have a Pixel 3a as well (16.04) and I don't have an issue with the flashlight- it works fine, so I wonder if it's an issue with the light itself. Were you able to test everything before you installed UT? I'm no expert (actually just started using UT myself) so this isn't advice but I wonder if you would be comfortable with flashing Android back on it to see if the light works then flashing back to Ubuntu Touch to see if it's a hardware issue. Maybe there's an easier way to check it though that someone else knows.
As for MMS, I've had an issue with that as well. I've been able to get texts working fine, but not pictures (whether from iPhone or Android) but like I said, I'm a beginner and sending pictures through text isn't that important to me anyway so I haven't tried a whole lot there.

@arubislander I am on 20.04

@tupelohoney Flashlight toggle doesn't work yet in 20.04. I have heard the uTorch app does work though. Check if it is in the OpenStore all. If not you might need to download it from the open store website.
What the picture transfer is concerned, do you mean via Bluetooth? Bluetooth is know to be finicky on Ubuntu Touch at the moment.
