3.5mm headphone media controls (pause/play, vol+, vol-)
-
Hi all,
Does UT support headphone remote media control buttons? if so, on which handsets?
These work by applying different resistances across the phantom powered mic+ and ground wires when headphone buttons are pressed; a circuit in the handset detects the resultant changes in terminal voltage and applies the commands for play/pause, vol+ and vol-.
This topic is fully explained here: https://source.android.com/docs/core/interaction/accessories/headset/plug-headset-spec
On an old Samsung Android handset I have, this works really well, with headphones with 3 buttons. However, when tried on my UT Oneplus One, the buttons have no effect on the phone.
Is it that the Oneplus One handset simply does not support this functionality, or is it a UT incompatibility across all handsets?
I am putting together some robust headphones for mounting in my ski helmet for next ski season, and wanted to build a chest-mounted control box with chunky buttons (ski glove friendly, inspired by spacesuit controls) for controlling my phone in my coat pocket... ie: pause the music quickly and easily when talking to other people without fiddling around with gloves and touchscreens. Also handy for taking calls too.
Thanks, Scott.

...anyone have any thoughts on this?

@scottbouch
Not from me, don't use that, sorry.
But i know all working button on android won't all work the same, or at all, on UT, and this differ for each devices. -
I think this was already discussed, at least here: https://forums.ubports.com/topic/6072/call-for-help-testing-headset-buttons/28
However it probably faded away, I am not sure. But with the wired headphones I have right now pressing a button will wake my screen up from what I remember. Sadly that's about that.

Thanks guys.. That post seems to be from about 2 yeas ago, so I won't hold my breath.. I think if this idea is to work, I will need to use a de-googled Android phone instead.
Thanks, Scott
