@jana If you have a choice, don't get the Redmi, they are a pain to unlock and support is hit or miss due to the difference in hardware in devices with the same model number.
The rest I cannot tell you compared to the S7. The issues you mentioned (except the usb mouse, that should work I think) are not device specific, so you will probably encounter them on other devices too. I have a pixel 3a, and I am happy with it, it is my most capable phone atm, But that is no wonder, if you look at my signature The Pixel 3a is very well supported, with improvements coming in steadily. So there's that.

@jana Don't expect for desktop apps to work well on your phone. There will always be quirks in them. Libertine isn't also maintained and developed enough to make it usable for most people. As for the mouse, it should work. I doubt that device doesn't support it. Have you tried different mouse or even other peripherals like a keyboard?
For device recommendation, Xperia X will probably be a downgrade in terms of performance. It was a midrange phone as far as I know. It will probably have a better UT port and support though. I don't know anyone using an S7 with UT Pixel 3a is the most popular one due to great UT support, availability, price and performance. I heard good things about OP5/6 but maybe they're more expensive. On the more expensive side, you have the Fairphonr 4.

Truth is, Libertine itself doesn't really need that much developing being done on it. Most of the things keeping it back are to do with XWayland support on UT. And that is something that does get the occasional update / improvement. And when it does, Libertine profits along with all the other stuff.
-
@arubislander Well it does have many components. Xwayland/wayland support is indeed a major one that is fortunately moving forward but other essential things too like content hub, media hub, clipboard, OSK support, etc are not much. Container management is also a big thing which is still buggy at the moment and I think container creation also needs improvements. They can be a PITA in my only limited experience
-
@kugiigi The regular folders are mounted in the container by default, so lack of content-hub support is not that big of a deal really. At least on my Jingpad the apps in a Libertine container run as if in Desktop Mode, so they are not subject to the regular app lifetime management. This is probably not as it should be, but it does obviate the necessity of media hub for the short term. One thing that Libertine apps seem to have lost is being content hub destinations. That one I do miss.
Container creation has been very stable for me for many devel updates now. But it helps to have a capable device with lots of storage space and processor power. So yeah, for me the XWayland support improvements along with some scaling issues are all the is really needed atm, and that is being worked on.

@arubislander Using a tablet also helps
Anyway, this is kind of far from the original questions -

I read that many people were struggling with unlocking Redmi's, but the fact their hardware differs within one model is news to me. Thank you for letting me know

Is there a significant difference between Pixel 3a and 3a XL when it comes to UT?

Tbh, my expectations were exceeded greatly already

Yeah, nothing works. Same input devices were functional on my Android phone and a Lenovo chromebook. But now I am not so sure that the micro-USB adapter I am using is functional. I'll look for another adapter. Bluetooth dongle-less keyboard works of course.

I am leaning towards the Pixel. Fairphone 4 is definitely super cool with its support for an external monitor

I don't know more than is stated on https://devices.ubports.com about the differences in support between the two models. I only have hands-on experience with the Pixel 3a.
-
@jana Oh yeah it's still micro USB It's possible that it may need external power especially if you're using wireless mouse/KB. Check if your OTG adapter has a power port and try connecting to power.

Works just as well on my Pixel 3a.

I was thinking the same, so I will stop now.
