Automatic update to OTA-3 Focal . What do users need to consider before updating?
-
I have a question regarding the automatic update from Xenial to Focal OTA-3: As a user, is there anything important to consider before updating to Focal, which is different from the experience with within-Xenial OTA updates?

@GT I don't think you will automatically update from Xenial to Focal. You would still need to consciously switch update channels.
Having said that. It is a good idea to make backups of data you don't want to loose before a major update like this.
You should also check if there are Focal versions of all the apps you feel are indispensable to you. Some people have found that battery life on Focal is measurably worse than on Xenial, but others find the performance more than acceptable.
Once you have updated to Focal, the first thing you should do is reinstall all the apps. There is a button for that in the Settings.

I also think that for Telegram you must during the switchover procedure, if you use telegram, take care to keep a Telegram/Teleports session open on a second UT smartphone or laptop otherwise you will have to go through an Android device to reopen TELEPORTS. I have doubts that a session of a telegram web app remains open when switching from xenial to focal..

@domubpkm Thanks for the info on Teleports. I am using Telegram/Teleports just on a UT smartphone (no other device). What can I do to keep the chats/account when updating to OTA-3 Focal?

Thanks @arubislander , I think with OTA-3 it will be different (no change in update channels necessary). Everyone will be prompted to update to OTA-3 Focal, if I interpret the UBPorts blog correctly:
"Existing users of Ubuntu Touch on Stable channel (which is selected by default in the UBports Installer) will receive the OTA-3 upgrade by using the Updates screen of System Settings."
"There is also the system update broadcast facility, which will send each online device a trigger message. If the device can find its update, it will be downloaded for you and when everything is ready, a notification will pop up and you can install right away."

@GT In my opinion, before starting the switch to focal procedure, you must activate a telegram session on a computer (your xenial smartphone will receive the code) and above all leave it open until focal is installed. Then install teleports and start activation. The computer's telegram session should receive the teleports activation code. It should work.

I believe that refers to those who are on OTA-2. In other words: who are already on Focal.

@domubpkm Is this a recent thing? I don't remember having a problem with this when I switched months ago.
As for the OTA update, I think it will only be offered/notified to devices that are already in focal stable. I do remember a plan to also offer the update to xenial devices so perhaps after some time, this will happen.
