    • Am I alone in here?

      Dear community,

Thanks for providing an awesome OS for the Shift6 as well. Besides one crucial app, I can use the phone easily as a daily driver and I am very pleased in having one very well functional (and maybe also slightly more sustainable) linux phone in my hands. Started to use UbT since September.
I hope that I can be more supportive of this awesome community in the future. For now, it's a fresh registration but also so many questions on my mind... 😉

However, I am quite wondering that I seem to be the first one posting here. I do this for now to signal that there are indeed people applying an UBport to the Shift6mq. Currently I'm using the development channel and see constant improvements being pushed to the phone.

Hope to find somebody else 🙂

I decided between the Shift and Fairphone, obviously. Could't recall how I made the decision finally...
However, you have to remember that these phones are comparably heavy and you get less bang for the buck looking at specs. But swapping damaged parts easily yourself makes it quite attractive not only for sustainability but also my purse in the long run. Hopefully.

Never bothered to boot into Android after receiving it 😄

    • libc-bin2.23 at fault

      Hey,

I tried to get libertine up and running ever since I ported to Ubuntu Touch. I even changed to devel channel for that reason but it doesn't seem to change anything. I also tried to find workarounds, reinstall, whathaveyou without success just yet. Here the output during container creation:

W: Failure trying to run: chroot /home/phablet/.cache/libterine-container/xenial/rootfs dpkg --force-depends --install /var/cache/apt/archives/libc6_2.23-0ubuntu3_arm64.deb
W: See /home/phablet/.cache/libertine-container/rootfs/debootstrap/debootstrap.log for details (possibly the package /var/cache/apt/archives/libc6_2.23-oubuntu3_arm64.deb is at fault)

I cannot find any log output as the container is immediately destroyed after failed creation.
I also tried to upload the corresponding .deb into the /apt/archives folder before running the create container command. I downloaded a newer version (and renamed) all same issue. This is true for both libertine in the GUI and command line on the phone.
What am I doing wrong and why can I not find anything about this issue? Is it device specific (Shift 6mq)?

Would be grateful for input/help here!

      Thx 🙂

    • RE: Upgrade Plans to FF 20.04?

@arubislander Sounds like a plan, thanks for that and the info.
Very helpful. I'll come back if I know more. Maybe of interest for anybody thinking about a shift.

    • RE: Focal/20.04 is out for quite a while now. You still use Xenial/16.04? I would like to know what stops you from upgrading?

      Hey,

Cannot upgrade to Focal as the device is not supported as much any more.
Unfortunately I decided for the shift 6mq which seems to be rather rare.

Where most of this is somewhat common sense in the community, I think, you very detailed answer is highly appreciated! 👍

    • RE: Upgrade Plans to FF 20.04?

Unfortunately I got a standard rather random answer that I can choose whatever OS I like for the shift and that I'm depending on the community's or my own efforts to port. No word about their recent activities etc. no word about planned support.
So I'm basically back to square one with my phone I wished I had gone for a Fairphone... 😕

    • Upgrade Plans to FF 20.04?

I know that I'm almost alone in here with my Shift6mq running xenial as an almost daily driver. Almost as in I have a phone from work as well that runs exactly one critical app that I would not be easily able to run on the shift phone.
Other than that I'm still very happy with the UBPort and still love it.

However, there are some issues and I was getting daily updates, some of those devel updates fixed some issues. This stopped about a month ago so I was wondering what are the plans for Shift6mq to upgrade to FF 20.04 and/or keep development upgrades running? I do appreciate that with very little demand, if any, this is not a priority but still want to know.

Thanks and keep up the great work! 🙂

    • RE: w: failure to run:chroot

I have the issue ever since installing.
For that particular issue, I switched to devel and jumped over 50 updates but this issue persists. Anybody any idea how to solve? Tried different things myself without much success as libc6_2.23 is quite outdated it seems?

As you've probably seen here, I have exactly the same problem on shiftMQ6 running xenial (currently devel 930).

    • RE: Am I alone in here?

I started before focal was a thing, so I'm on xenial/16.04.
Because it's mostly my daily driver and works quite well, I'd rather not change as of now.
Besides I'm really curious, of course.
Also, focal might change some issues I have which seems to be device specific. E.g. libertine lib2.23 seems to be faulty.
