This seems like a great discussion you are having here. Also great that now there are 3 different versions mentioned that I should install. That really helps clear the confusion....

So I guess I'll start with 12.0.2.0, incrementing until everything works.

@Enrico13011978 I'm not sure what exactly you are saying. There is a Android 10 version for the phone, but a newer version is currently installed. So I have to downgrade, I know that.

I was just confused what type of image to use for the downgrade. But reading the guide linked above, it's just the "normal" downgrade path for Xiaomi phones.

@stanwood it does, thanks! The guide you posted uses the full image, and that's what I assumed I have to use.
Maybe the link in the device page should point to those images then. To avoid confusion.

    • RE: Ubuntu Touch Q&A 151 Call for questions.

      @UBportsNews

I would appreciate a rough outline of what exactly the requirements are for installing Ubuntu Touch on a phone. For my phone (Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro) it only states "latest stock Android 10 firmware".

      • Is it "stock" like unbranded Google stock android?
      • Is it "stock" like Android 10 with MIUI? because that's the "stock" version on the phone
      • Is it really just the firmware or including vendor, os and all the other partitions?
      • Most custom firmwares say you should boot up the phone after downgrading, is this neccesary for ubuntu touch too?
      • Maybe it would be useful to include such information (or even the whole down- / upgrade process) on the device page.

That one sentence (that's also way on the bottom of the page and doesn't stand out at all) leaves quite some room for interpretation.
especially for the folks like me that are not super experienced in custom firmware / flashing phones -stuff.

    • Some Confusion about the install requirements

      Hey everyone!

I just got my Redmi Note 9 Pro delivered today and I'm planning on installing Ubuntu Touch on it.
I have already started the bootloader unlock process, but I'm not quite sure how to proceed after that.

      The device page: https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/joyeuse/ states:

Please double-check that your device is running the latest available stock Android 10 firmware.

      And gives this link: https://xmfirmwareupdater.com/supported/firmware/
If I understand it right, this is the download link to just the firmware.
The file size is ~ 78 MB for the latest Android 10 version: https://xmfirmwareupdater.com/firmware/joyeuse/stable/V12.0.4.0.QJZEUXM/

      So here is the question:

      • Do I really just use this file and downgrade the firmware? If so, how?
      • Or should I use the "normal" downgrade process and use the whole Android 10 + MIUI 12 fastboot archive (~4.6 GB) and MiFlash Tool to downgrade the whole phone?
      • Or is it both? I'm not quite sure if the firmware is even included in the Android / MIUI package

Thanks in advance for any clarification 🙂
