I have an LG Nexus 4 and am on the stable channel.
I will try to re-install. I am assuming that when you say run it without wipe that my data (notes, contacts, mail, texts) will remain intact?
I have some questions regarding notifications and the screen not waking up
I received a voice mail today but didn't really get any notification. I am not sure what to expect, the little green notification was lit, but that was lit earlier from emails and texts I received. I had no notification that I received a voice mail until much later and actually missed an important call.
Another problem I am having - when I receive a call or when the alarm goes off, I need to use the power button to access the screen. Is this normal? I haven't been using UT for very long but I thought the lock screen would show up when either of these events happen.
Thanks for your help, still trying to adapt to UT
Just getting back to this. I am trying to use UT as my main phone now, it is missing a lot of features my other phones had but seems to be more stable than my most recent android attempt.
How do I enable SSH on the phone? I am fairly competent with the CLI so I should be able to figure it once I get started.
Ok - saving the contacts to a vcf file worked. Finding how to access the contact checkbox was a complete stumble upon. Thanks for the tip on the select all box. Plus, I am so old school it took me a second to recognize the share button, not something I often use.
On the other hand, I discovered that Dekko mail won't send attachments or access my contact list. I really like UT but there are some things that don't work that surprise me.
I have UT on a Nexus 4 and cannot get the bluetooth headset I have to work. Oddly, I was able to listen (but not talk) on Skype but after upgrading software on phone I can't get any audio to work. Both the headset and phone say that it is connected but still no audio. I have unpaired and re-paired and restarted phone but so far no luck. The headset is Plantronics Voyager 5200
Thanks everyone for the advice. I am trying to not use an Android phone but it's pretty convenient, even without using Google apps. But I am an Ubuntu / Open Source fan so I am trying to get as many of the same features as I can.
I thought about Evernote, that way I could toggle between phones as well as back up. Don't know it well but it seem pretty ubiquitous and I'm sure I could learn it.
The .vcf option has already worked out for me as far as getting contact info to my phones, but I can't see a way to create a .vcf in UT. Could you please give me some directions as to how to? That would be an acceptable way for me to store and recover contact info.
I'll check out UBsync, I hadn't seen it yet in the store.
Again, thanks for your help
Sorry if I am missing something here, but I searched thru the forums and there is little information on how to backup UTouch. Since this OS is meant to be an alternative phone OS, backing up and restoring would seem to me to be of primary importance. I see that some contributors have been attempting to create address backups, this seems not quite deep enough. I would also expect to be able to sync notes, test messaging, photos, music, etc.
So again, maybe I am missing something obvious but if my phone were to get, stolen, broken, frozen... I would hope to be able to store all the data somewhere and retrieve/ re-install with little difficulty. It doesn't have to be OTA or cloud based, just a way to back up and restore
Please let me know what backup methods are available or that other users are employing
I am in the process of finding a new phone/os to replace my Palm Pixi. I have UT on a Nexus 4 and my service is a TMobile pre paid plan
Is there anyone out there that has had success with MMS on this device and carrier? MMS stopped working on the Palm and I have seen a couple posts that seemed to indicate others may be having similar problems with TMobile/ Nexus 4.
What carriers are users having success with on the Nexus 4?
In the process of trying to get an alternate OS on my Nexus 4. I have installed UT and am getting used to it but am curious if Lineage OS might suit my purposes better. Die Hard Ubuntu fan and like a lot of UT features but my current phone is a Palm Pixi and it's UI is still my favorite. So I am looking to reproduce it as much as possible.
What is the process for installing Lineage now that I have installed UT? Is the process listed here feasible? Or do I have to revert to Android first?
PS I will post with issues I am having with UT - separate from this post. Some may be user error or my unfamiliarity. Some might be due to issues with my phone carrier
Thanks for your input. After about 30-40 tries the phone rebooted. I don't think it was a battery problem since it had been on charge for over 24 hrs. However, after the bootloader screen I tried the UBports loader program and have successfully installed UT on the Nexus 4. I was suprised that it worked, because yes, the phone was completely unresponsive.
First time trying to install UT. Nexus 4 device and I was running UBports installer. Installation stalled after about 3 files and said it might be cable. Swapped cable and was told to reboot to bootloader, held vol down and power button. After a few seconds the red light at bottom came on and unit is now dead and unresponsive. Does not show in lsusb. Does not re-power.
