@freddo I see that files on system-image.ubports.com are stored with digital signatures, so, the situation is better here, but still requires implementing mechanism of choosing mirrors in installer software. I'll take a look at that soon. Thanks

@Sentinel said in No GPS access from inside Waydroid: maybe the MIUI version I flashed might have impacted Waydroid's reliability or other things? Yes — this can significantly affect UT. The MIUI image version to use is specified in the installation guide under "2. Check the correct version of MIUI", and it looks like you used the correct one. I can't explain the unusual bugs you've reported. Did you remount the system as read-write and make any changes? Did you use apt (update/upgrade/install)? I'm fine with starting a new discussion thread.

@gischpelino Thank you for that, it worked Because I did not follow through the instructions procedure upon installing I'm kind of reluctant to use TWRP now it is installed (only changed 'Keep System Read Only' into allow changes) , frankly I'm not sure whether it'll do more harm than good going through all options available. Too scared of the unknown I guess..... How to check if I still need to change that into ext4 format?

@stanwood For me, the most amusing thing on the workaround is, that it is just a user-agent string update.

I know this thread is old, but maybe a new comment can help those that are following it. My tether connection is working. I have macOS Catalina and a Nexus 5 with OTA-12. A driver for OSX can be located at: https://joshuawise.com/horndis Sometimes there may be problems and with OS updates, too. I found some good stuff at Github: https://github.com/jwise/HoRNDIS/issues/102 You may get advice that can get you going in the right direction. My internet connection is pretty fast from my Nexus 5 and I hope it continues to work. I hope this helps someone.

Thank for your revelations Stan, that the installer is not the entire answer to getting UT on the phone, and also that I have been holding buttons in for too long awaiting a response from the phone. If the UBPorts instructions had contained that information maybe I would have been successful, however I am now pursuing the purchase of a phone with Ubuntu Touch already installed.

kugiigi: I found the file. Thanks. I'll try to figure out how to change the keyboard sound to something custom.

Hiding the SSID isn't about security. I read an article on that. I'm in a position where "out of sight out of mind" is appreciated. Thanks for any advice.

@penguining Hi, I'm glad you got it working. I just wanted to add that I had a similar experience, but without a happy ending. I've had different experiences depending on the installation source; from best to worst it was: AppImage, deb package and snap package. As with you, the AppImage recognised everything and installed successfully; at least that's what the message says. The deb was similar but couldn't recognise the device initially. The snap did not work at all: didn't recognise, kept complaining of lost connection to the device and no message of successful installation. Also, volume up + power never worked for me, only volume down + power. So at the moment I'm stuck with the UBports recovery screen. Cheers!

Because I'm short in time I will keep my OnePlus One as main phone for the moment. Never change a running system. When I got time or the OP1 will stop working I will give the OP 3T a try. Thanks for your feedback. I really really enjoy this great OS as it is growing to be a really great alternative to Android for me.

@aamu said in installing ANYTHING without having terminal or open store installed (aquaris E4.5): I would have given up Glad it hasn't come to this. The search engine you're using may change the result a bit in my experience. But yeah most searches with Ubuntu touch lead to articles like "Ubuntu touch is dead" or sometimes "Ubuntu touch is NOT dead" and from this you can find UBports community... The community is small hence not visible. And nowadays a search for something specific and rare leads to something popular and does not provide the expected outcome. Standardization of people's minds

@c4pp4 That certainly helps! But it doesn't end the problem as they randomly come back. But I'll take it until someone figures out a fix.

@aclifton314 said in Anbox issues: When I started anbox, there were multiple instances of the default apps (i.e. calculator, calendar, contact, and 4 instances of Files). Does anyone know how to get these default apps to not show up when running anbox? If I have to remove the default apps (or any apps I pull from my android), where are they installed to verify that adb uninstall has worked? Ad 1 To get rid of multiple icons try to refresh the Drawer by pulling down and releasing. Ad 2 You can remove default packages directly from an android image, see https://forums.ubports.com/post/31776 (skip media_codecs.xml step) e.g. if you want to remove Contacts and Calendar delete the following dirs: squashfs-root/system/app/Calendar squashfs-root/system/priv-app/CalendarProvider squashfs-root/system/priv-app/Contacts squashfs-root/system/priv-app/ContactsProvider

Thanks. I have to admit that I did not knew this (new?) feature. I have configured in Dekko2 three mail accounts and I cleared their cache now to the smalles backlog (one week). While this was running in the GUI (btw: there is no visible reaction on pressing the clear button and no progress meter), I ssh'ed to the device and run a for loop: phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~/.cache/dekko2.dekkoproject/mail$ while true ; do find . -type f | wc -l ; sleep 10 ; done 2402 2464 2560 2657 2740 2812 2847 2856 2914 3003 ... The number of files went down from some 22000 to 3000, but why it's counting some times incrementing? A bit strange, isn't it? And on which date the backlog is counting backward? I have here an example of a file which originated from mid April, but the last modified date is of today: phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~/.cache/dekko2.dekkoproject/mail$ ls -l 1590987986.20456.47xC6 -rw-rw-r-- 1 phablet phablet 6680 Jun 1 07:06 1590987986.20456.47xC6 phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~/.cache/dekko2.dekkoproject/mail$ grep ^Date: 1590987986.20456.47xC6 Date: Sat, 18 Apr 2020 15:09:09 +0000 Why this old mail header file has been rewritten today?
