PinePhone

@Jackl since you're not all that interested in Ubuntu Touch anyway, maybe you'd prefer to discuss at https://forum.pine64.org/. This forum has more discussions because there are a lot of people interested in Ubuntu Touch on the PinePhone, you'll probably find similar discussions at any other partner project's preferred meeting place.

Any specifics on the MALI-400? number of cores, speed?
-
@snailmail
The Mali-400 is part of the A64. Those are the specs you are looking for. -
- 9 Why there are more discussions on the phone here than on the pine64 forum ?
I think it is partly because there is no dedicated pinephone section in the Pine64 forum yet.
The other parts of the equation are that UB Touch looks like the most likely distribution to be device-ready by the release date (although that's just my perception based on superficial observation from a great distance) and the community here seems friendly and engaged.

@trainailleur we have tentatively decided on the Samsung J7 3000mha form-factor battery. The key word here is 'tentatively' - apparently one or more factories are happy to accommodate this request, but obviously we'll know more when the inside of the body starts getting worked on.

@mymike IR is a no.

I think this looks fantastic and for the price, I see no reason not to get one. In fact, I already convinced my wife I'll be grabbing one when it drops as well as one for our youngest as her first phone. Very excited to see how UT development goes on this.

Cool!
Qt has superior performance on embedded, ARM based devices.
This is new, didn't know that.
i3 would be hard to use? no keyboard?
With toolbars and gestures like android and UT does...
Notice that I sayd pinephone 2, i mean the next gen one -

OP updated with this and the LED info. Thanks for keeping us up with the latest info!

Just wanted to confirm that we will be going with the Samsung J7 battery - they are reliable, relatively inexpensive and easily attainable in most places we checked ... they will also be around for quite some time.
We trust everyone is happy with this decision. -
@PINE64 I seriously cannot wait for this phone. It's so cool to see such a down-to-earth project coming together.

Hey all,
Will be getting a Pinephone mockup as well as other stuff announced at FOSDEM soon, and figured I could do a livestream showcasing it all and answering whatever I can live. I am thinking about the 28th at 22:00 GMT - this is a Sunday and will likely work best for most people.
Once the parcel clears customs, and I know for certain that the stuff will be delivered to me on time, I'll let you all know and provide the streaming link. Lets hope customs are kind and it all goes smoothly -
That sounds great. I'm interested to see the mockup and the time is perfect for us on the Pacific coast.

what about covers and glass screen protections? will they be available?
-
@mymike Once we have a fully working phone prototype we'll start asking about what peripherals you guys would like to see. I think that its safe to assume that a case or two and a screen protector will be available for the phone.

Martjin has now posted a movie showing weston running on kernel 5.0.X

For those who want to hang out and have a look at the current devkit and chat about the roadmap for the phone. We'll also take a look at whatever devs send over to me.
I'll also be looking at the Pinebook Pro, as that is the other major device announced at this year's FOSDEM, and we'll probably have a casual chat about other PINE64 community related things too.
