Hello everyone!
I'm sorry for my late introduction. It seem to have been difficult for me to remember to do it at a time when i had time to do it. Anyway, i'm Hans from Sweden.
My experience with Linux started a dual boot machine with Redhat Linux almost 20 years ago. After a few months or so, i turned it into a single boot machine and some months later i switched to Debian. Few years after that, i found Ubuntu and have stayed on that ever since.
I really liked when Canonical introduced the convergence idea, and by the time they started to launch the BQ devices with Ubuntu Touch pre-installed i really started to think about having Ubuntu on the phone as well.
A phone for me really has to be small enough, so my choice at that time was between the E4.5 and the Nexus 4. They both turned out to be quite hard to get, but i finally managed to get hold of a nice second hand N4 in Bangkok. I really hope it will last as a UBport's device for quite a while. Fingers crossed.
The N4 had Android on it and i re-flashed with Ubuntu Touch. That was a really nice feeling to leave Android behind for some reason. I found that i really like Ubuntu Touch, and i think it is really nice that it is both a phone and a computer at the same time. I also very much like the high grade of open-ness and freedom.
My dream is that not to far in the future some phones will be completely open (both HW and SW/FW), but i also welcome open and closed co-existing on the same device. It should be up to each and everyone of us to mix and match to get the optimal balance between freedom/open-ness, flexibility and favorite hardware, i think.
I've been an Embedded Systems Developer since i graduated from university, so i'm also interested in this kind of phone from that point of view as well.
Finally i'd like to thank you all for your nice contributions to this community. It is very nice here, and a lot of nice work has been made by members of the community!

I am sebsebseb I have used Ubuntu over the years since the second release, but offline installs of Fedora Core 2 and 4 were my first distro. I am involved with Mageia as well on the community side here and there, but Ubuntu Touch was interesting, and I have three devices for that, plus a Salifish OS, Firefox OS, and Tizen phone etc. Been checking out Ubports here and there to some extent for a few months or so now, but yes finally joined the forum, so I am basically joining this community properly now. However I am wondering about a few things to do with my MX 4, including how to back up and reflash but for another thread.

Hi, newbie Andy Valencia here. I think it was a Slashdot article which lead me to ubports, and I freed up a Nexus 5. Working on notifications, with an eye on long term Blink/Oxide possibilities, since the platform will die without an ongoing browser strategy.
I'm an old Unix dev (like, v7 on PDP-11 as my first Unix work), commercial OS work on HP/UX, Motorola's SVR4 and Sequent's SMP "big iron". I also wrote a microkernel (vsta.org). More recently it's been a bunch of HTML5, CSS3, ES6 kinds of work.
I tried Touch a few years ago. One stream didn't even boot, one booted, wouldn't start a browser, and the phone heated up alarmingly. I come back last week and find my Nexus 5 pretty close to a daily driver! Many good things have obviously happened.

Man I feel really dumb reading through this thread. There are a lot of brainiacs! My name is Jack and I am 24 and simply an Ubuntu enthusiast. Not only do I want to see this project thrive, I am also looking for a mentor. If you need work to be done, just point me in a direction and I will go. I may not have your background, but you'd be surprised how quickly I will pick things up.
(seriously though, call on me for help with anything. I'll bust my ass for you)

Hi! My name is Sami and I'm from Finland. I'm 40 years old. I have been interested about Ubuntu Touch since beginning. I have Nexus 4 as my UT device. I also have Nexus 5, but it has Android and Sailfish dualboot.
I like to always try something different than mainstream. I am not an developer..I have been using Linux (Ubuntu, Debian, Redhat) since 2001. I like to build all kind of things with Linux. I am good with Linux servers, it has been my hobby over 10 years..

Hi, I am Nico from Germany. Ubuntu Touch was my first Smartphone OS and despite its restrictions I have no intentions of moving to Android, Windows or iOS. Therefore I was happy to see that the OS was to be continued by ubports.
I am solely a user with hardly any knowledge of programming. Therefore my support will be mostly monetary, but my thanks to those who create this is enormous.And continuing in German as it is only directed towards other Landsleute:
Ich würde mich gerne in der Entwicklung einer festen Unterstützerstruktur für Halium/ubports und Konsorten in Deutschland beteiligen, wobei das deutsche Vereinsrecht sich hierfür gut eignet (ich kann nicht programmieren, aber dafür organisieren). Ich fände es schön, bei der Gründung eines Vereins mitzuwirken, der die Erstellung von eines freien, sicheren und kommerziell nicht genutzten Betriebssystems unterstützt (was durch die Absetzbarkeit von Spenden einfacher ist, sobald hier eine Gemeinnützigkeit anerkannt ist). Vorbild hierfür wäre der Verein von KDE.Ansonsten:

Scott Marley here, Australian, 35 years old, salaryman, statistician and historical archivist by day, occasional freelance writer by night (a short career so far with just 2 articles published in UK magazine Retro Gamer).
When I eventually stopped resisting and finally got a smartphone, I chose the Nexus 4 with UT as my first. I loved it until I eventually dropped it by accident and replaced it with the flagship Meizu Pro 5 international edition, where I had to install ubuntu myself. I loved it so much I convinced my mum to get one too, so we're both avid users. She just turned 60, so possibly oldest UT user?
I recently dropped my own Meizu and while I'm trying to get the screen repaired, I bought a Fairphone 2 as a replacement. I'm not sure which model I like the most, or which will see the longest ubports support, but I'm loving the FP2. Me being so accident prone, I think I'll appreciate it's rugged build and easily replaceable parts, but I'm still a fan of the Meizu's more premium style design and features (I miss fingerprint unlocking).

My name is Brînzariu Cristian, I'm from Romania, that`s a weird country in Europe, father of one little monkey. I'm an Ubuntu enthusiastic user since 10.04 and now a proud owner of a Nexus 5 with UBports on it. I'm eager to learn things and help as much as I can ... becoming a patreon for UBports (small one) was a natural thing for me to do.So I'm here to dream about an mobile OS that do not track me or others and that is still user friendly and modern as the big bad Android or Apple's OS.
At the moment I also discovered that I can help by translating apps to my native language (romanian that is) for UT developers and learning stuff about programming myself for UT.

Hey everybody! My name is Richard but you'll probably see my on here as rchar66. I am a Product Designer by trade here in Milwaukee Wisconsin. I've been working at several companies over the years as a Product Designer now for the past 31 years. Designing all kinds of products from Stereo Headphones, Electrical Motor Components, Interior and Exterior Lighting, Food Service and Medical Carts. And now for the past 10 years I have been designing several different kinds of unloading mechanisms for covered hopper cars in the railroad industry.
My first experience with computers was in the early 1980's when I got my first computer, a Timex Sinclair ZX81, which I still have and it still works! I had to keep it because it was the first time I did some hacking and had to take a full size keyboard and re-wire it to make it work with that computer. The original keyboard eventually failed and beacuse it was on of those thin membrane keyboards and eventually failed from so much use.
After that computer I moved up to a Commodore VIC20 and then a Commodore 64. I used those computers a long time and had a lot of fun with them. Eventually I started using an Intel based PC, at first with just DOS and then Microsoft WIndows. After being completely fed up with dealing with all the issues of Windows, I started reading about Linux.
My first version of Linux was RedHat 5.2. I was able to get it installed but knew nothing about Linux and struggled with using Linux all together. I ended up not really ever using it, but played around with it here and there.
Then a few years later, I found Mandrake Linux. I had read a few articles about it and liked how it looked and decided to give that a try. I decided to install it on a brand new laptop that I bought. I figured I would do a fresh clean install and force myself to learn how to use Linux this time. And I'm glad I did! I started learning how to work on the command line and how to do a "hacking" to make the WiFi drivers work. It was fun and I actually was able to use the laptop for a lot of things and I was learning how Linux worked!
It was a few years after that when I had read about Ubuntu. I wasn't really interested in using Ubuntu, but Mandrake had become Mandriva, I was starting to have some small issues making things work after running some updates, so I thought, why not give Ubuntu a try? And the rest is history as they say.
After starting to use Ubuntu since version 7.04, I am now using 16.04 LTS on 2 System76 Meerkats, 1 is used as a desktop computer, the other as a HTPC on my TV, my laptop is a System76 Lemur and then of course I have my BQ M10 FHD tablet that came with Ubuntu Touch and now I have UBports on it.
From starting to use that Timex Sinclair ZX81 (at the age of 16) to logging in to local BBS's here in Milwaukee with my Commodore 64 to using DOS & Windows on Intel PC's to using Linux now (at the age of 51), I have seen a lot of different computer systems and have learned a lot! And it all of it has been fun! I wouldn't change or trade it for anything else.

Hi, I am a long time user of Ubuntu touch since 2013. Linux user since 2009 or so. I had a SmartQ 5 "pocket computer" running Linux - an early version of Lxde prior to becoming interested in Linux, that's what got me into it I suppose (I still have this device and it still works but I could never manage to keep it up to date) .
The first smartphone I ever owned was the Nexus4 which I only bought because I found out about Ubuntu Touch. I never even used a mobile phone before that apart form one I got free and only kept it as an "emergency" phone.
I was told to get a mobile phone by my wife so she could get in touch "any time she wanted", which is kind of why I did not have a mobile phone n the first place.
She even threatened to by me one but I thought no, I will find something that I can tinker with hence the Nexus 4 installed with Ubuntu Touch.Since I had no experience with smartphones I was quite happy with the Nexus 4 installed with Ubuntu Touch and did not miss the fact that there were so few apps for it. I have used Ubuntu Touch as my only phone OS ever since.
I was a bit disappointed that Canonical has not put more effort into keeping Ubuntu Touch going but am determined to keep using an Ubuntu phone, great work in keeping it going UBports.
I am a bit slow of the mark coming to UBports but I will be migrating my original Nexus 4 and newer Meizu MX4 this weekend.
Is there a migration path from Canonical, or is it best just to flatten the phones and start again? -

I'm not so much a new comer to the project as I am new to the UB Ports community. I formerly worked at Canonical as a lead developer on the Canonical Distribution of Kubernetes and was a big mouth in the Juju community. (no really, I talked a whole lot...)
I have admiration for the Halium project and the continuation of UTouch. I just picked up a One plus One to lend a hand with QA of the releases. I may lean on you for help to track down the proper information to attach to a bug report but I do plan on trying to help make UTouch a daily driver, and will post fun hacks I come up with in my hobby time.
