I also have the Polarcell in my N5. Seems to work great. I just have the strange situation that it doesn't hold charge when the phone is completely turned off. It will still drain the battery in maybe 3 days. Anyone can confirm this?

@poVoq I noticed something similar but way faster with the PinePhone.
Fully charged and turned off the battery is draining after 24 to 32 hours (I actually don't have exact amount of time)

@poVoq Had that happen twice. The second time, I noticed the phone had hung in the shut down process - black screen, but still power to the screen (the LED at the edge was still lit). I manually powered off by holding the power button for 10 seconds or so.

Was waiting to see if it was just a random error before trying to figure out what's going on and file a bug report. The fact it happened to a Pinephone tells me it's not a problem specific to the N5. Now I'm wondering how often it's happening to others.

@rocket2nfinity ah, but that doesn't sound like what I am seeing. My N5 screen is definilty off and by all other means the phone seems to be actually turned off. It also happens all the time, not only occasionally.

@poVoq Then you may have a component failing either in the battery or phone. Does it do the same with another battery installed?

It's the only battery I have, as the original one before was completly borked. But yeah, might be a hardware issue.

Update on Nexus 5 UT install: stumbled through by trial and error for want of knowledge. UT is lovely! Swapping my Verizon SIM card, found no network. Calling them for help, they said the IMEI is incompatible with their system. In more detail, this Nexus 5 does not have HD Voice. More than a year ago they said Verizon would allow no more phones on their system unless they have HD Voice. I did not recall that when buying this phone.

Can anyone say what carriers will work with this phone? My area has only Verizon, att and consumer cellular. There are some satellite carriers also. Their coverage areas are not real good here.
                      Nexus 5 imei 35823905251....
Is this ID a CDMA or GSM phone?

Do some of the Nexus 5 s have HD Voice? Verizon is the only carrier with signal at our house.

                      How do I tag posts?

@poVoq I've got a used spare, and brand new spare Nexus 5X battery if you want to try the battery mod - and you live in the United States. Free.

@jjconstr Verizon has always been difficult. Try PagePlus (Verizon network). They will let you on. There are other Verizon based MVNOs as well.

As for at&t network MVNOs - Cricket, Red Pocket, Straight Talk has Verizon options as well as GSM options, etc.

@jjconstr All Nexus phones are both CDMA and GSM - if you have the American market version. I have my Nexus and Pixels on Google Fi which uses both US Cellular, Sprint, and T-mobile networks. That's the advantage of using a Nexus/Pixel phone on Google Fi - you can access both networks. But the Nexus 5 can only do one network at a time. The Nexus 6 and beyond can switch dynamically.

@jjconstr There is a hack that further enables Verizon compatibility with the Nexus 5. Never tried it but lots of articles about it if you Google search "nexus 5 Verizon hack" Here's one:

Thanks. I'll check those other carriers. Possibly this Nexus 5 is euro. It came with English GB selected. If it is , would it be compatible?

@jjconstr Your IMEI number should be 15 digits. Not the 11 you posted. Do not post those numbers here, that's not good for your security. Instead, search "IMEI check" at Google. And select one of the checkers (t-mobiles is good, so is at&t) and input your number. It will tell you whether you have the Euro or American version. If you have the Euro version, you will get 2g and 3g but not LTE. There is no way to change that software wise. Wherever you bought it from should have specifically mentioned if it was the Euro/International model D821 or the American model D820. Hopefully, you have D820.

Nexus 5 was blacklisted by Verizon according to @UniSuperBox so sorry, you cannot use it in their network at all.

@jjconstr that's bad news for you. You'll need to verify what other networks are in your area and give them a go. I was not aware that Verizon black listed the N5. What a shame.

Especially when it is the only carrier with coverage where I live. The ebay ad did specify Nexus D820.

@rocket2nfinity said in Nexus 5 vs Nexus 5x:

It is worth a try. If no carrier will take it here, how about advertising a Linux Ubuntu Touch international phone on ebay?

Would that spread the popularity of UT? The proceeds could be split with UBports.

Would a N5 in bootloop flash UT successfully? Installing UT in N5's for resale is interesting to me. I see one advertised on ebay.
