@AppLee wow, after reading your message I tried again to boot the phone and... it is booting indeed!
The flash on eMMC made the phone very hot, maybe it just needed to get some fresh air? At least one day without touching it made it boots the first time I pressed power on.

@Fla
Yes that's a bit strange and I cannot figure out what is the problem.
For me, boot got stuck even after a night with the phone off... -
I regularly find myself needing to power off and back on again, but it does seem to fix most things...
I have yet to find something repeatable though.

I've been testing the Braveheart PinePhone for quite some time now, but still have one problem that won't go away: While I can receive a phone call, I can't place one. (It always returns: Call Failed). A number of times recently I've downloaded the latest image and given it a try, only to get the same result. I'm using T-Mobile, which is alleged to be a good carrier for the PnePhone. Is there a trick to placing a phone call?
Thanks

Hm. I couldn't find any better thread...
I received my Pinephone from China today (Yeah! - and that me being in Germany). As I understood, it was recommended to update the phone upon arrival, as the factory image (May 5th) is not the newest built. But neither on stable nor on rc the new pinephone could find any update available.
What is to be done? Thx. -
@Vartojas You are not seeing any updates yet because the day-one OTA Update is not out yet. It will be ready tomorrow. Anyway I suggest you to stay on Stable and don't change the channel because you may break your phone.
Also please join the UBports main telegram channel to stay up to date. -
Well I sat on my OnePlus One the other night rendering the touch screen unusable, and forcing the Pinephone into daily driver duty. Here goes nothing.
I'm pleasantly surprised at the progress on power management, the phone is no longer perpetualy hot and even cools down if left alone! That modem is still a problem under any actual use but I can get half a day between charges while having voice, sms, and data while out. As I don't go out much this is working fine.
I'm curious if anybody knows whats what with the update channel selection? Why are all of the channels listed numerous times?
And, what is the status of the various channels? Is there a stable-rc-dev cycle happing yet?

@Giiba said in Pinephone (braveheart):

It's a bug. If you want to switch to the developer channel, it's usually the first one listed from the top down. I think Dalton said he had found a fix for it, so maybe it work soon.
BTW, I'm impressed by your bravery in taking the DD plunge so early with the PinePhone. Truly Pine64 sold a Brave Heart to the right person!

@trainailleur pandemic 2020 kinda makes it possible, lol. I'm never out more than a few hours.

Can we safely install Ubuntu Touch through Jumpdrive on eMMC?
-
@stux
Yes, I have done this.
When you extract ubports , it will expand to the required size, ( so you need room for that on your PC). -
Hello all. I recently acquired the pinephone community Manjaro edition, but after trying it out, I much prefer using the ubports image, which (at the moment) seems a lot smoother and more stable to me.
I know there are hardware issues with the actual ubports ce pinephone that procent desktop mode from working properly, but as my pinephone is running the new 1.2a hardware revision, I would expect convergence to work. However, so far I have not been able to get my pinephone dock to work at all on ubports.
Has anyone else had success using ubports convergence with the latest pinephones running on the 1.2a hardware revision?
I wonder if there needs to be additional software support to make this work properly. I'm not sure if desktop convergence is supposed to work automatically with a dock and hdmi out, or if I have to enable that somehow (on Manjaro phosh there is a setting to toggle "desktop mode", but no such thing on ubports).
-
@sintrastes If it's not your main phone, you may try switching to the channel with the latest kernel. Go to Settings > Update > Update Settings then select the latest kernel or something called like that. I'm not sure if external display will work with this new kernel but I'm sure that with the current images that use 5.9, it won't work.
Also, desktop mode toggle is only for switching to windowed mode and has nothing to do with an external display.
-
@kugiigi I upgraded to the 5.10 kernel, and it didn't seem to help much. It doesn't even seem to be detecting my usb mouse and keyboard on the pine64 dock.
I'm checking out the development channel now as well. If it doesn't work with that, I think I'll post an issue on gitlab.
-
@sintrastes Some people seems to have the external display working on them on the kernel upgrade channel albeit the screens are interchanged. Have you tried other distros that have working external display? Perhaps your dock isn't working on the pinephone?
-
@kugiigi Yeah, the dock works on Manjaro phosh for both usb mouse/keyboard and external display, so I know it's not the dock.
I messed around with mounting the root filesystem as writable for a bit and apt installing a few things, as initially I was not able to get libertine to work, so I'm going to try flashing a fresh dev image and see if that helps at all.
