[Feature Request] Meetings / Events from calendar on lockscreen

Yes, I think the actual behaviour of the lockscreen is a bit of senseless, in my opinion. Which user does a tap on the screen to read how many messages he sent or how many calls he had? So it's way more usefull to show the upcoming events for example.

I think it's better to improve the lockscreen and implement some kind of a static mode or priority assignment.
+1 for that
although we have had that discussion before and proved to be more complicated then expected. This thread amongst others confirms there is a demand to personalize the lockscreen once more -
What about a ticker or something else that switches automatically? To allow more than just a few lines of text?

@lduboeuf I can see the events from the indicator menu, but I have to do this manually. When you forget to do this, it's possible that you miss an event.
-I came to say as well you have them in the indicators bar, accessible from the lockscreen.
-If you want to be notified, you can add anotificationreminder (activate More details in an event). If you have notifications on for Calendar, they will display on the notifications indicators at the time you choose -
@CiberSheep That's right, but then you have to set a notification for every event. For example I don't use notifications for birthdays. That are all-day-events starting at 00:00 o'clock, so there would be a notification at midnight when I leave the phone on over night, or no notification when I switch the phone on in the morning.
When the event would be listed at lockscreen you would see it after switching on the phone without checking calendar or indicatormenu manually (what I'm forgetting to do on almost every day). -
@kristatos If you have no reminders for them, you have them listed in the corresppondent indicator (You can set a reminder with options, it doesn't need to be in time it can fire on the settings you tell, you can check under Reminder). You can even tap on a date and you'll see next appointments from that date
-
That's right ...
But I have to look at the indicator. When I forget to look at it, then I could be, that I'll miss an event
If the event would be displayed at the lockscreen you would be reminded automatically because everytime you're using your phone you look at the lockscreen first. -
@kristatos That's why they are accessible from everywhere to be easy to check. And you have the rest of information related to time in the same place
-
@CiberSheep * or set a reminder if you want to be notified (of course)
-
@CiberSheep Even if something is easy to check, one would still need to actively check it.
They're easy to pull. But Kristatos suggests having them pushed. That's the difference.I think it's a valid request.
-
@Moem I think we should make bubble notification not disappear as an option. That wouldn't solve Kristatos issue (he doesn't add reminders to the appointments)
I think it is a valid request. As valid request as having Connection name on the locking screen, because if it changes and connects to another wifi, it's useful to see it in the lock screen and also message notifications, and the forecast because is something we always need to check...
They are all valid requests, then you have a problem again, you need to actively check if you have an appointment between all the other notifications but now mixed all together. How could we get apart the «notifying notifications» from the «passive notifications»?That's why I think if you need to get notified but don't want to check the according indicator, you should set a reminder. That will notify you when you tell it.
-
I agree with @CiberSheep.
@kristatos has a valid point of view, but they can work around it really easily : set a reminder on birthdays. Or check the dropdown menu.In order to move forward, I'd say a good way to improve the user experience would be to add a customization feature to the circle indicator (sorry I don't remember it's proper name).
IDK how it actually works, but I guess we can see the lockscreen as a server displaying simple information. Each app posting to it is somhow registered. To improve it, I suggest to add a configuration app allowing the user to check the data allowed to be displayed. We can do this the same way apps can access the GPS. We can even add apparmor for this feature.
This way if I want to have ICE information it can stay forever because it's the only one allowed. But it's getting a bit off topic...
A new feature in the Calendar could send how many meetings per day and the next one in the text area. What do you think ?
-
@AppLee The birthdays were only examples for this feature. But I agree with you, the infos shown in the "circle" of the lockscreen should be configurable, like in UTTT where you can set "indicators->Date & Time->show events"

I think that's a great idea.

@AppLee
Too bad only one upvoting is allowed- 1 for personalization of the Lomiri Circle
In addition: The ability to have specific data be fixed when phone is from sleep mode

Agreed.

I dont think thats the best way to do things, to my understanding the circle will only be viewable in future, if you dont have any notifications on your welcome screen, i think maybe adding calender events that are happening today in the circle would be fine, but the original idea from canonical was to have events show up in a notification bubble on the welcome screen.
