Fluffy Chat or Axolotl
-
Hello all, first of all this title can lead to confusion : it is not a fight, I just would like you to share your Pros/Cons about Fluffy Chat and Axolotl.
I just bought a N5 and flashed Ubuntu Touch in it, it is really pleasant but I would like to keep some old habits like Nextcloud or Signal Messenger.
My dilemma is to either use Fluffy Chat + Signal bridge or Axolotl. Does Fluffy Chat + Signal bridge can allow push notifications compared to Axolotl ?
I don't know how easy/difficult it is but if you have any idea, please feel free to share. At least, please feel free to share you experience with both apps.
Thank you very much for your kind help.

@prog-amateur To avoid the confusion or it's a fight syndrome, why not change the vs to 'or' that should stop it.
-
@lakotaubp yes obviously, it is a good idea, I have edited my title. Please feel free to share your experience if you have used one of those apps.

I use Axolotl and it's fine, except for the group feature, which is currently under very active development. I have high hopes for the future.

push notifications aren't the main problem of unofficial signal client. If you use UT Tweak Tool to keep Axolotl running, you will receive the notification when you have a new message. The real problem is to keep following upstream changes. See the massive work needed to support groupsv2.

Thank you both. I'm very tempted to try the bridge experiment to see if I could get Matrix/Signal interoperability in place and test it in an Ubuntu Touch client, but it takes a bit of time and infrastructure (you need a server that runs 24 hours a day).

@moem Hello, I forgot to ask you something : what do you mean by group feature under development.
Group feature is mainly the reason why I need to use Signal so I hope it works and can at least receive messages/(video) calls, what do you think ?
Thank you -
@prog-amateur I mean that the group feature is not currently working well. Signal has made changes to groups, and Axolotl is being made compatible with the new V2 groups but it's not easy and not quite finished yet.
At the moment, I get messages from people in such a group as if they were individual messages. And I can't post to the group.Axolotl cannot yet receive calls or video calls. I don't think there is any messenger app that can do that on UT at the moment.
-
@prog-amateur yep, sorry but you won't have that before months on UT...
-
Thank you both !
At least, I hope Fluffy chat can do that (photo / video. I am trying to install a matrix server. Download is easy, but not the setup ^^ -
@prog-amateur said in Fluffy Chat or Axolotl:
I hope Fluffy chat can do that (photo / video.
I'd be amazed. Like I said, I don't think there is any messenger app that can do that on UT at the moment. See this topic for more information if you're curious.
But I hope for your sake that I'm mistaken! -
@Moem is right this is not something possible at the moment.
That's a big issue and many people expect this feature sooner than later.Be sure that when this is possible you'll hear drums and trumpet
