App List Folders
-
Hello, one thing i would like to bring up / suggest is the addition of folders on the apps list menu, for example, id like to be able to add messaging apps into a folder and technical apps into another, the main reason why i want it though, is the fact that after installing anbox (nexus 5) i have both the ubuntu touch and android versions of the stock apps, like calculator, calendar and settings, which is getting rather annoying. any help or advice, other than ignore them, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to the ubuntu dev team none the less, loving ubuntu touch so far! -
You should open an issue ("ehancement" in title) on ubports dev git.
Search first if there is not already similar "request".It's a good request.

@linux_legend One of the features that I wanted to bring from Unity7 is the categories selection in the Dash (that could work well on bigger screens).
For now, you might pin the most used apps in the launcher and use the search from the Dash for the infrequent ones.

@cibersheep Scopes had an option to just show apps such as social media apps, games, etc, I know a lot of the scope code has gone, but maybe some of that code could be digged up to be added into the dash?
All it really did was give you a drop down menu, that let you select games, or something and then the only apps viewable where apps under the games label.
I dont imagine this would be a replacement for things like folders, because some people might have a "Work" folder for apps that they only use at work, which could easily feature plenty of apps which don't just fit into one category, but at the same time, it might be a quicker way to get something that will make it easier for some people to find the apps they're looking for.

@phoenixlandpirat I don't remember (can you believe it?) but might be similar
The Unity7 Dash uses .desktop (I think) info and sections to filter the app
That could be something -
@cibersheep I cant find an image of it, any screenshots of the search i can find, are the old ones before they added the options to just show those in different categories.
However yeah under the Tipus menue thing where it says internet media, etc, late Scopes had those options in a drop down menu, so you could hide everything that wasn't in one of those category, which as long as apps are categorized correctly, can be extremely helpful!

@phoenixlandpirat probably was the same idea (in the screen is the app scope :D)
So, now we need to do some mockups and see if it's possible to implement in Lomiri ^_^
-
@cibersheep I made a quick mockup using the popup menu from the files app, I know its not the best, but I hope it helps, I think having something look like this, you can start simple, with just one or two extra search functions, but can extend on it over time as new features are added.

@linux_legend
An excellent idea. Right from the start of using Touch I have wanted a way to arrange applications into user defined folders for easy location. In my case that would be: Communications, Maps & Navigation, Utilities & Tools, etc. -
@phoenixlandpirat Yep. That could work for smaller screens. Something similar to TELEports filters
-
@cibersheep
Or to OpenStore ones, but user defined also ^^ -
@cibersheep Maybe if we brought back the separators that where in the dash to separate apps by there starting letter, you could just choose to change the separators from being based on the nameof the apps, and be based on categories, etc, but that separation would have to be based on what the user chooses.

@phoenixlandpirat said in App List Folders:

Uff... no
Tap on categories to show/hide them sounds better
