@flohack Now that's is a tease

@alexiuscrane just a quick note:
UBports is the foundation developing Ubuntu Touch (the Operating System)Answering you're question: if you only need phone calls and SMS you can also check the supported device list and get a second hand device. They are working pretty well, installing Ubuntu Touch is not difficult but check if bootloader needs to be unlocked (some models are a bit difficult)

What's your definition of "brand new"? Do you mean a brand new model or just a new and un-used device? I got a new Sony Xperia on ebay that was only used for installing UT (older model, but new device). If that's what you're looking for, there are several offers.

Android go is lightweight android for low hardware devices, with 1 Go ram or less. -

@alexiuscrane My sugestion is to stay away from android go devices. Go with an Android "Propper" that is suported under Ubports. Very few devices work well with MMS and texting and Voice. The pixel 3a on the ATT network works well and is stable, but has many other issues. For example mint mobile does not have MMS and xfinity mobile does not work. Your carrier will play a part in selecting a phone. May I ask why not android and the specific reasons why your choosing to leave?

@alexiuscrane If you are looking for a daily driver OS, and dont know coding, I sugest linage OS. If you are okay with bugs and okay with working with the comunity to make your device better Ubuntu Touch. I currently can not use UT for a daily driver, so i carry 2 phones atm. The pixel 3a has issues but i can make calls and text, not mms.

Maybe it would be possible, if device under android go have same OS "tree" than normal android device, but, as i tried to tell you, go devices have very few ram and hardware power, so it's not a good choice to port uTouch on it as it could be slow/laggy.If you're not confortable with english, you can use deepl translator website.
And i'll add unlike what some told to you, i use uTouch as my only smartphone device since 6 years without problem so this OS is a good option to replace gafam ones, and as a matter of fact, for me, it's the only daily device usable choice.

Forget about Meizu unless you find a used Ubuntu Touch native MX4 or PRO5 to buy because it is almost impossible to install uTouch on a android native one (bootloader locked with steel concrete).If you want to have a cheap uTouch device daily usable, choose Nexus 5 or One Plus One.

@keneda Good sugestion. Pixel 3a was picked up for under $100 USD. I think i found a nexus 5 for about $70 on ebay in the US.

@trwidick
You can find it even cheaper, at least in France, i bought my spare one (lot of scratchs on it, but screen ok) for 40ā¬ sending fees included. -
@trwidick then buy a polarcell battery at the same time (about 40$) on ebay. It almost doubles the battery life and BELIEVE ME it's worth it

@keneda Dang thats awsome.
