Prevent update
-
@kugiigi On my OP5 when you change channel you do get the spinning wheel to confirm channel change then the tick appears by the 'new' channel (Channel Settings). The next page back though (Update Settings) shows the 'old' channel until you go back one more page to Updates and the download has started then the channel on Update Settings changes. So there is a slight 'slight has it worked' moment that could be a bit clearer that things are working.
How this could be done and at what stage and by what the changes are indicated I don't know. Sounds like a potential design question to me. Good idea though.
@cliffcoggin I get this every so often too. So you are most certainly not alone If a few switches back and forth don't fixit I do resort to the installer. Patience is not a virtue I always have. -
@lakotaubp Yeah wes hould update the list when we go back through the pages, its highly confusing since years
-
@flohack Is it known why downgrading is such a widespread problem, and are there plans to overcome it?
-
@cliffcoggin In general I do not suffer from problems when I am downgrading, lets ignore the visual detail for the moment.
What you should do: Before changing channels you should install any pending update. Chances are high that your device downloaded a nightly update when you are in devel. If you dont install that, but switch to stable immediately it can become stuck in some way. Thats the thing I would always do, install all pending updates before changing channels, even if it takes much longer.
Well plans for fixing it: We have so much to do its nothing that has an ETA yet.
-
@flohack Thank you. By chance I had a Development update immediately before downgrading to RC. I wondered at the time if they were related.
-
That was also the case with me once.
I did not want another update on the RC channel, but simply switch to stable. And then I had to realize that I first have to install the upcoming update from the RC channel before I can make the switch to stable. These are the little challenges that we non-programmers have to do to understand the trickier things and contexts of programming.
It's annoying sometimes, but it makes you feel like you're part of the community.Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)

@mario-ch Well even as developer it annoys me af its not a need to be a programmer to understand this, its just a nasty UX bug...

@Flohack
After six weeks of repeated failures to make stable channel stick, I have finally succeeded with the arrival of OTA 18.
In the interim several RC updates of about 450 MB have downloaded but not installed. Should I attempt to delete them, and if so how?
I have a screenshot of the update page but can not see how to attch it. -
@cliffcoggin A swip right should show the dust bin of doom if you want to go that way but probably no need.
-
@lakotaubp Thanks. I was not sure if it was safe to delete them, hence my question. The four older RC versions 106-109 deleted by swiping. The most recent version 110 does not give me that option. It is waiting at the top of the list to be installed, so I shall have to make a conscious effort not to press the install button.
At least I have gained 1800 MB by getting rid of the others.
-
@cliffcoggin Your next updates willjust appear above that 110 one. You shouldget the chance to remove it by then.
