Hi, I want to install on my xiaomi mi A3, UBPorts do you know how to install on this phone ? thank you.
-
@mito77
You can find progress on this port there:
https://forums.ubports.com/topic/5496/wish-list-for-other-devices-in-the-device-subfolders/22This is not yet available in the installer due to its insufficient maturity.
You can check and ask the porter for advice but I would not advice you to do it except if you're getting into. -
Hi, are there news about the work in progress for the Xiaomi Mi A3? I looked at the status and there is no indication about what works and what doesn't.
I own one and I would be willing to make tests in order to make it work properly. Is there some developer willing to back this up?EDIT: I see that there's some movement on the GitLab page (https://gitlab.com/ubports/community-ports/android9/xiaomi-mi-a3). It would be nice if the forum admins opened a subcategory for the A3!

@eigen-mike
A sub forum is open when the port reach a certain level of maturity when major features are working.
If you want to follow the progress made with this port you'll have to reach to the porter on gitlab.
As well as if you want to try and test it, but I guess it's not ready yet for this and probably the porter will come here to ask for testers... -
@applee
Yesterday I got in touch with @mintphin , who's working on the porting. They have released two videos on Youtube showing Ubuntu Touch running on the Xiaomi Mi A3:Since those videos are one year old, I was wondering why the UBPorts device page doesn't show anything about which features work and which do not (https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/laurel-sprout/). There is also an XDA Developers thread about the work on the kernel to make Halium work (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/kernel-gnu-linux-lunecrash-kernel.4098121), where various people report that major features are there!

@AppLee
I forgot to ask: is this not enough for opening the sub forum? -
Hi @eigen-mike
I don't know.
Maybe @Flohack might help you here with a process to recognize a new port...
Maybe that's also a good question for the next Q&A -
I have just moved this thread to the generic Xiaomi one as it's a bit lost whrere it was. @Eigen-Mike only had a quick look at repro but as they are trying TWRP recovery configs that might be a reason for it not getting a sub forum but lets see.

Thanks for the replies.
Unfortunately I've just discovered an unpleasant truth about this device: once you've installed Android 11, you simply cannot go back. Xiaomi prevented it somehow. This is also confirmed in an XDA Develpers thread. I didn't know about this and I bricked the phone TWICE while trying to install two different stock Android 10 ROMs. The flashing itself is successful, but the phone doesn't boot. To unbrick it, you have to disassemble the phone, go into EDL mode........
Bottom line: since the current Ubuntu Touch port is based on Halium 9, only those owners who haven't updated the phone to Android 11 can use it. Downgrading from Android 10 to 9 should be still possible, but I cannot test it for obvious reasons.
As a result of this, I decided to sell the phone. I will probably get an Oneplus 6, since there's hope of using it with the mainline kernel soon thanks to community efforts.
Cheers.

@eigen-mike Might be an idea to change the title of the thread to Warning for if that is the case. Which I have no reason ti doubt.
-
@lakotaubp unfortunately I cannot change the title, because I'm not the author of this thread.
-
@eigen-mike Good point missed that.
-
@mito77 I have taken the liberty to add to your thread title. Hope that is ok as I think it is quite important info. If you disagree I can remove it.

This post is deleted! -
@sami6767
That's not how the community porting effort works...Please read/search forum before posting, especially pined : https://forums.ubports.com/topic/2299/new-devices
-
@sami6767 Please do not hijack threads with requests for device porting. The info you need for porting is here and it is not a straight forward process https://forums.ubports.com/topic/2068/halium-first-steps Have a look round the forum someone may be doing or thinking the same thing and maybe you could help each other. For now I will delete your post. Please feel free if you start a port to post in the Porting section.Thanks.

hi ! I'm back for a short moment. Do you know if @Youssef_Jacobo have an easily solution for flash or downgrade Android 11 to 9 ? Because on the manual of ubports . I read : Important Notice
Before installing you'll have to downgrade to stock Android 9 firmware in case you're running Android 10. IF YOU'RE ON ANDROID 11, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL UBUNTU TOUCH, OTHERWISE YOU'LL BRICK YOUR DEVICE.Video youtube tutorial IS required for eager man like me.
And me I have Android 11. About Laurel Sprout.

@mito77
Sadly, i think you can't downgrade from android 11 on xiaomi devices, it's xiaomi anti rollback policy, not only you can't downgrade when bootloader locked like google policy with latest android versions, but xiaomi added an "extra" protection so you can't downgrade even with bootloader unlocked, and if you attempt to do so, you hardbrick...Maybe i'm wrong, let's hope someone gives you a solution.
https://c.mi.com/thread-2098701-1-0.html
If there is no way to downgrade from 11 to 9, you'll have to wait for a Ubuntu Touch Halium 11 port (= android 11 based) for your device.
