RE: Xiaomi mi A3 ? (plus Android 11 warning)
Thanks for the replies.
Unfortunately I've just discovered an unpleasant truth about this device: once you've installed Android 11, you simply cannot go back. Xiaomi prevented it somehow. This is also confirmed in an XDA Develpers thread. I didn't know about this and I bricked the phone TWICE while trying to install two different stock Android 10 ROMs. The flashing itself is successful, but the phone doesn't boot. To unbrick it, you have to disassemble the phone, go into EDL mode........
Bottom line: since the current Ubuntu Touch port is based on Halium 9, only those owners who haven't updated the phone to Android 11 can use it. Downgrading from Android 10 to 9 should be still possible, but I cannot test it for obvious reasons.
As a result of this, I decided to sell the phone. I will probably get an Oneplus 6, since there's hope of using it with the mainline kernel soon thanks to community efforts.
Cheers.

I forgot to ask: is this not enough for opening the sub forum? -

Yesterday I got in touch with @mintphin , who's working on the porting. They have released two videos on Youtube showing Ubuntu Touch running on the Xiaomi Mi A3:Since those videos are one year old, I was wondering why the UBPorts device page doesn't show anything about which features work and which do not (https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/laurel-sprout/). There is also an XDA Developers thread about the work on the kernel to make Halium work (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/kernel-gnu-linux-lunecrash-kernel.4098121), where various people report that major features are there!

RE: Xiaomi mi A3 ? (plus Android 11 warning)
Hi, are there news about the work in progress for the Xiaomi Mi A3? I looked at the status and there is no indication about what works and what doesn't.
I own one and I would be willing to make tests in order to make it work properly. Is there some developer willing to back this up?EDIT: I see that there's some movement on the GitLab page (https://gitlab.com/ubports/community-ports/android9/xiaomi-mi-a3). It would be nice if the forum admins opened a subcategory for the A3!
