WayDroid, what Android apps work well for you ?
-
You use android applications with WayDroid on a mobile under Ubuntu Touch and you are happy, please tell us about it; it will be useful to other potential users.
-
@libremax
Here are apps that work fine for me:- Tusky
- MagicEarth
- OsmScout
- Simple Contacts
- Subway surfer
- Telegram Foss
- Fennec
- Fdroid
- Aurora store (from Fdroid)
Apps that kind of work:
- Snapchat
Apps that did not work for me:
- Netflix
- Newpipe
- Spotify
Most apps work very well, some are a bit slow. Using the Camera slows down the Apps significantly. (Tested on Volla)
-
Here's my experience on Vollaphone OTA-21 stable + Full Micro-G implementation (No GAPPS)
Country: Switzerland(I don't mention the applications indicated by Libremax that I also use in order to avoid duplication.)
Apps that work for me:
- Aliexpress
- Aurora Store
- Aurubis
- C&A
- Duolingo
- EasyPark
- Groupe Mutuel
- H&M
- Hello Kids
- Migros
- myCSS
- OpenfoodFacts
- Profital
- Project Makeover
- Radio R
- Raiffeisen TWINT
- Samsung Internet
- Coop Supercard
- twinme
- Zalando
Kinda work:
-
La Bible (when a praise category is selected, the application crashes - same appears on /e/OS and LineageOS for Micro-G, but works well on Android 11)
-
SmartThings (Notification work. App launches, but unable to find connected devices)
Not working at all:
- iRobot home (needs Wifi / Bluetooth connection)
- Zeptrion (needs WiFi direct connection)
- Garmin JR (needs Bluetooth connection)
- Disney Plus (At the media launch: Error 39)
- CrontoSignSwiss (Banking app, when registering the device: "Unauthorized device"
Quality of operation: Good
Speed of execution: Correct -
On Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro (joyeuse) - in USA.

Steve Berson -
@totalsonic Are you able to start to play a media on Disney+?
-
@stanwood - yes. I am in USA though - it is possible the difficulties some might have with this app might be region based.
Best regards,
Steve Berson -
@totalsonic Ok Thank you. The weird thing is that this same app works fine on /e/ OS with the exact same Micro-G config. (Gigaset GS290)
Maybe Vollaphone is not authorized by Disney+ servers... -
@stanwood - on /e/ OS it probably shows to Disney as Gigaset GS290, where as on UT it shows as Volla.
Best regards,
Steve Berson -
@totalsonic Correct. Indeed. (In Disney Plus settings, phone ID is "Vollaphone") This is certainly the reason....
-
@libremax Install apkpure store and Install apps from this app easily. To uninstall it you can enter android settings > apps > select the app > uninstall. The process is easy once you have apkpure installed on the device, you can install and uninstall all apps without going through adb. Spotify run well too.
-
UK Volla phone user here.
Working well
*F-Droid
*Fennec (but not appearing in UT apps list)
*K-9 Mail*FTP Server Free - can access waydroid folders read-only from Ubuntu Touch browser when set to allow anonymous access.
*HL (Hargreaves Lansdown) share dealing app - logon attempts failed. I cancelled as advised and logon then worked fine.
*Atomic Wallet - Easy to use cryptocurrency wallet
*Binance app - cryptocurrency exchange trading app - warns that 'phone is rooted'.
*SafePal wallet - possibly the best cryptocurrency app. Connected to software and hardware wallets successfully. Able to scan QR codes.App Closes immediately
*Hive (Centrica British Gas home controller). There is website access.
*Swissborg - cryptocurrency exchange app
*NHS app (the prescription and medical records app not the covid app). There is website access.
*Starling banking appNot working for other reasons
*Muun - Bitcoin lightning wallet - Displays message that Google Play Services are required for push notification. Cant proceed any further. I sent a bug report. -
@bruswilis I would reccomend the aurora store from fdroid instead. ApkPure has had serious security issues in the past.
-
After being unable to use Muun Wallet due to a Google Play Services dependency, Ive installed BlueWallet and its working fine on the Bitcoin Lightning network and launchable directly from a Ubuntu Touch toolbar button.
So I just wanted to confirm Ubuntu Touch users have the ability to connect to Bitcoin Lightning, Software, and Hardware wallets. Which is a big step forward in usability for me.
For anyone not familiar Lightning allows small retail purchases using Bitcoin at near-zero fees, in a similar way to using GooglePay or PayPal.
Thanks to everyone involved in WayDroid.

Add aTox (Tox messaging client) as tested and working on Waydroid - Redmi Note 9 Pro.
Best regards,
Steve Berson -

@treebeard Several Android apps updated a few days ago and I'm happy to say that:
-
Starling banking app - Now fully working and usable
-
Swissborg crypto app - Now working up to wallet recovery. I haven't checked any further yet
-
NHS app - Able to log on now, after which a blank page is displayed.

@libremax I installed Waydroid through Waydroid helper, but sadly after install and rebooting it wouldnt launch. I am on the Sony Xperia X (F5122). But I am happy that others have apps working already.
I am excited to hear from others what else works under waydroid. -
@ultimoore said in WayDroid, what Android apps work well for you ?:

Xperia X is Halium 7.1; Waydroid requires Halium 9 or up.

@moem ooooooooooooooooh. Okay cool thank you for that. Now it all makes sense.

-
@kazord Sorry, but I'm not sure to follow how a native app is related to waydroid?
