The future of the UbuntuTouch Q&A
-
Hello everyone,
you may have heard that Dalton stepped back from his contract at the UbPorts fundation(more). With him leaving, the future of the Ubuntu Touch Q&A becomes uncertain. The Q&A has been part of community developement and information for 4 years now and I think it would be a bummer if it got lost, as it always was a great way to get an overview about what is happening in the foundation, developement and what is important at the moment.Lets get to the point , I would love to learn more about how the Q&A was organized in the past, who decides what the future will look like and how we as the community or I as a single person can help to preserve the Q&A. I would also love to start a general discussion about the Q&A and what its future schould look like.
ps. I wish Dalton all the best for his future

Good question. I would hope that some form of regular live news/Q&A show could be maintained.
Just my two cents: I think biweekly is too much. It becomes a big workload for the ppl doing it.
Secondly, whoever might be taking it over - just take it easy. Don't put the bar too high. Dalton is leaving very big boots to fill. It's not necessary to push yourself to try to maintain the same professionalism /quality/frequency/setup... Maybe now is a good moment to go back and re-watch the early episodes as an inspiration what it looks like to start walking, before you get into the jumping up the stairs mode

I agree. Once a month would be just fine!

@moem Tend to agree. Two week gaps especially in the last months have had the same question in one form or another and repeated answers in the same vain. Not long enough time for changes/progess to be made as 20.04 has shown.

Once per month would be fine for me with regard to questions from users. I hope that would give time for more considered and prepared responses. Spontaneity is all very well in some circumstances but is not the best format for accurate replies.
Let's not forget that the Q&A was also used as a vehicle for development announcements from the foundation. Given the pace of developments on Ubuntu Touch I fancy once per month would also be an appropriate frequency, though whether Q&As need to be in the same broadcast is unnecessary to my mind.
In summary, once per month would be good, perhaps with separation of Q&As from annoncements.

I definetly agree, once a month is probably enough. I think it is also a great opportunity to rethink the QA and maby put it in a more open context, maby similar to the Volla Community meetings. They invite people to public jitsi calls and allow questions from listiners through this meeting. This sometimes results in great discussions. I believe a format like this could defintly benefit from longer pauses.

So as one of the Q&A frequent passengers a few words...
- Yes once per month could work for the moment. I guess the announcements can still fit into that timeframe
- We were often struggling with long questions, and "4 questions in 1" posts, that are hard to answer since they jeopardize time for other questions. Its not easy to be fair with that. But a little bit of filtering could be good, and maybe we indicate which question will make it into Q&A ahead.
- We are lacking now a host with good command of English language. A native speaker will be preferred I think. Suggest someone
- The Q&A is run with a few tools that make it kinda easy. Though, a few days before and on the evening at least one hour before you should focus on preparations
- YouTube is a must still since a) it has the best connectivity for all people listening b) it automatically stores the recordings and c) our team can then do postprocessing for audio-only and text transcription.
- Good relation with marketing team: They need to know in advance when the next show will happen.
THats all so far. There will be Q&As coming, I have a guest for one of the next ones for example, so its not dead in the water

@flohack I'm good with once a month too!
