Hello,
I need to identify hardware and a software application for navigation/gps with a larger display then my phone. At the moment my best guess is that I would use my smartphone as a WiFi hot spot to connect with a table or my older netbook.
I live in the US so tablets that are compatible with Ubuntu Touch remains a small list. In fact, it appears the 2nd Gen. Nexus 7 is still the primary choice. However, I have an older netbook that runs a lightweight Linux distribution and I'm wondering if this might be a suitable choice. I do think both of these choices are good regarding their dimensions. The Sony Xperia Z4 appears the be a great option but I have seen no indication these were made available in the US.
Please let me know if you have questions regarding my purpose or suggestions for hardware and software choices.

Can you help me out here, please... What does this have to do with Ubuntu Touch?

I have moved the thread to OffTopic, please let me know if there's a better category

Precisely what sort of navigation do you want? Is it for driving, cycling, walking, flying, sailing, or something alse?
If it is for off road cross country use I can recommend a dedicated device such as Satmap. It is probably the most expensive unit available and has a smaller screen than most phones, however the maps are greatly superior to any other.

Not 100% might be a better option than Nexus 7 though for UT

For driving. Yeah, the Nexus 7 is a bit old. Despite this, I still love my Nexus 5 w/UT.
I'll look into the other thread and the M10 TB-X605F. It does read well.

What about OSM Scout Server coupled with Pure Maps. These are in the UT App Store.
The only concern I have is will it treat my Nexus 5 okay in view of the warning you receive when you attempt to install OSM Scout Server?

What about it? What warning? I don't understand your question.
I have a Nexus 5 with Pure Maps and OSM Scout Server. It works, but I only use it as a reserve device because of the battery drain.

@cliffcoggin - OSM Scout Server warns the potential user that it has access to the system and displays a warning message regarding this to inform the user before they install it. I do not know if this message is displayed on all phones or devices that attempt to install OSM Scout Server or if the select few it is know to have issues with observe this message.

@rvan Now I understand. The "warning" is only alerting or reminding you that it needs your permission to access parts of your phone in order to do its job. It is nothing to be concerned about, so go ahead and install it.
