@nostromov Since Ubuntu Touch does not use any form of assisted GPS at the moment, first lock can take up to 15 minutes and requires an instructed view of the sky for the initial fix. After that it should be much quicker. And also operable indoors, until the caches satélite positions are no longer accurate (after a reboot or longer period (think days / weeks, not hours) of not using GPS.

Swipe down from the location detection in the top bar (shaped like a location pin). Note that even if location detection is on, it will only be active when there is an app active that is allowed to use it.

@rvan Now I understand. The "warning" is only alerting or reminding you that it needs your permission to access parts of your phone in order to do its job. It is nothing to be concerned about, so go ahead and install it.

Hi @jite I have an Pixel 3a running "Stable". No issue with the GPS. When you let your phone open, were you out in the open? Also the screen must remain on and an app actively searching for your location. My steps are to just launch Pure Maps and choose to navigate to somewhere. Pure Maps keep the screen on when navigating (default setting) so I don't have to do much then leave the phone do its thing.

@lakotaubp Thanks. The link was for GPS, not WIFI. I did some digging, and turns out that without active mobile network card in the phone, AGPS will use a long time to get a fix. This is because AGPS use cell tower fix to determine rough location, and then get help from internet to calculate a more accurate position. (Simple explanation, read more here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assisted_GPS) I put my phone card in the Nexus 6P, and even inside it took under 1 min for the unit to have a fix and position. So now I only have WIFI to sort out.
