GPS Help Request
-
Just saw this post and finally nudged me to trying it out. Picked it up on uNAV after about 10 minutes outside. Maps was instant..

@Luksus
Nice to hear from you.
Yesterday, I tried uNav outdoors with a clear view of the sky and left it for about 75 mins, but still no joy.
Also tried with SensorsStatus. Got encouraging indications (backend supported etc), but still no fix after 20 mins.
I ran the same tests with my BQ M10 tablet and got uNav and SensorsStatus fixes quite quickly.
I am on OS Ubuntu 16.04 (2022-W11). -
I own a OP6 device and figured out that I only get location data when a SIM is inserted and I do have mobile data. To get the position, in Battery settings => Lock when idle => After 10 Minutes,
leave the navigation app open, check after 9 Minutes, touch the screen so it gets another 10 Minutes until it has the position. When display turns off, it somehow does not search for location anymore.... maybe this info helps you. -
@magdesign
Instead of tweaking the screen timeout, you can prevent suspension of phone for gps app using Ubuntu Touch Tweak Tool app from openstore. -
@keneda Agreed. In fact preventing app suspension via UTT is better than keeping the screen on continuously because it only applies to that particular application. All other apps are suspended as normal for maximum batterry life.

That's interesting. I have the Lenovo TB-X605F version which , unlike the TB-X605L version, is WLAN only.
I wonder if that could be the explanation?
I am sure Luksus has the L version because, as part of porting, he would have been implementing LTE dependent functions. -
@dtarrant Yes, I have the L version. It would be interesting which version @MrT10001 has.
Since UT does not support A(ssisted)GPS, I would have thought, that SIM-card or an Internet-connection does not matter, but who knows...
Please make also sure, that GPS-rights are given to the apps, checking System-Settings, Security options.
What I also did, was turning GPS off and on again, then restarting the app, just in case it helps in any way. -
@dtarrant @Luksus @Keneda @magdesign @MrT10001 @TotalSonic
Which Lenovo TB-X605 are you using, F or L? -
@dtarrant i don't use any, just came here to point UTTT ^^
-
I have the "F" version.
-
@mrt10001 @Luksus
Well that's encouraging. I need to try again.
When I hunted down the data sheet on the Lenovo website, I learned that there may have been some product revisions over time. I have just checked the box and it says:
Mfg Date: 2019-11-05
The data sheet I downloaded has much more detail than the Quick Start Guide that came in the box.
(see Accessing your User Guide for link) -
@dtarrant The manufacturing date on mine is the same as yours.

I am happy to confirm that today I got a fix with uNav!
This was outdoors and took about 15mins.
I carefully followed the advice given in your previous posts, so many thanks for all your contributions. -
