Forgot passcode

Reinstall using the UT installer and untick the Wipe Data box and you should get back into UT
If the phone lock password has been forgotten, this will not change anything.
To reinstall UT and regain access to the content of the smartphone, there must be obligatorily a deletion of the data it seems to me.

@domubpkm : In my opinion, too, that would be the expected and wanted behavior of UT. Is that also how it works now? Otherwise, if you lose your phone, or it gets stolen, the person that gets their hands on it can access data without knowing your passcode, simply by re-installing UT and unticking the wipe data box.

@kugiigi this remembers me i have to continue bruteforce my TV PIN 4 digits code because i forgot it lol
-
@alter I f someone has forgotten their passcode, they will not be able to bypass it by simply reinstalling with wipe data unticked.

In fact, it is possible to reinstall UT, change channel with wipe data unticked, but impossible to access the contents of the smartphone since the unlock code has been lost... unless someone has a genius idea which would be a security breach for UT..
A security solution could be to define a maximum number of attempts before completely erasing the smartphone because it is always possible to type 10,000 codes within a reasonable time. Or having a 6-digit PIN would be more secure.

I would like to remind anyone who might have that 'genius idea' to please follow responsible disclosure practises and not simply publish that answer here.

Isn't it possible to set unlock to passphrase and use all digits wanted ?
-
@keneda In principle, you are right: it seems to be the same thing, at least I believe. The difference lies mainly in the unlocking procedure which is more intuitive on the screen for the PIN and this especially in the event of an error. Test

I had an issue on a Nexus 5 that booted fine but for some reason was locked with a PIN (that I had not set on install). I reinstalled on stable with the wipe data unticked and it all worked fine, all installed apps were there and the photo I had transferred for a background was in downloads and accessible. I haven't had the issue since (happened about a year ago).

@arubislander @domubpkm :
Good to know that the phone's content remains locked when someone tries to bypass passcode by reinstalling UT with wipe data unticked! Thanks for clarifying!
