        Hi guys,

I am in desperate need to have a Linux phone. I looked over the site to order one of the most suitable Linux phone models, to basically focus on enjoying it, not spend time trying to fix or figure out what happens.

I purchased the Pixel 3a XL, it came with android, and I unlocked the bootloader. It took me 6 hours to install Ubuntu Touch.
I made sure it worked when Android was installed, I mean, I was able to text, make and receive calls with no issues.

Once I made the switch to Ubuntu Touch, 16.04 and 20.X, the phone does not make or receive phone calls, it only sends and receives text messages.

Why is it so hard to make Linux work on phones that are already confirmed it works?
I am an advanced Linux user.

I deleted Ubuntu Touch and went back to Android to kame sure I wasn't missing anything, phone worked perfectly. Then... I went back to Ubuntu, and the same issue again.

Is anyone experiencing the same issue?

        Please-help.

        Thanks,
        Kodex

@kodex Because of the change to VoLTE, no UT device will work with Verizon or AT&T at the moment. Very bright people are working hard at it, and there has been a lot of progress, but it's very complicated and not ready. If you are an advanced linux user, you can help us with that. Please join us on Telegram (https://t.me/ubports and ask for the North American Issues group).

Otherwise, T-mobile still works, and you can get calls functioning on AT&T and Verizon with the use of the Linphone app and a sip provider - also easier to explain how in the UT NA issues telegram group.

@kodex There's also the Pinephone. The non-pro model is pretty much daily driveable, especially using Arch. The pro model is not, but does have much better hardware.

If you really want to know, maybe you should give it a try.

              Is currently using an Op5t
Also owns an Op1, a BQ E4.5 and an Xperia X, as well as a BQ tablet and a Pinetab2. Please, someone... make it stop.

@kodex It depends where you are. If you are in North America then sadly calls do not work; if you are elsewhere in the world then calls should work.

Hey @rocket2nfinity , thank you for your reply. Actually, I have been in Telegram groups for a while now. I need to invest some time investigating VoLTE protocol or the stack of protocols for modem management. I am switching to T-Mobile, which is not my favorite carrier, but if it works, I would take it.

I am researching already. That's the reason I want an Ubuntu-based phone.
