Hello all and happy 2023!

Okay, I'm going to start my notes in here, seems like a reasonable place.
I've read through most of the docs at least once and I took a lot of notes in general on what they say. Then I went searching for my information.
This website mobilewithdrivers seems to have everything for which the docs are asking. I think I'm getting pretty close to having the things I need to start dabbling.
Motorola Moto e6 - 16Gb
Samsung Galaxy A01 - 16Gb
Nokia 2 V Tella - 16GbI'll split these out to different topics and repos for documentation purposes as things progress, but right now I'm just collecting data. The plan is to keep everything inside this thread until I can actually get started working on something.
Anyway, now that I've taken some written notes, some e-notes, and found some guides, I think it's time to read through the porting docs process again and see if there is anything else I need to collect or figure out before I get started mashing buttons in Terminal.
Anyway, this was a big find for me today and my confidence in this project has gone from "Eh, I might be able to do it" to "Yeah, these three phones should be no problem."

@b4t54ndw1ch No please do not post porting threads here we have a porting section for all things like that https://forums.ubports.com/category/33/porting it will just get lost here. You will also find links and info for all the stuff you will need. Please also check your device will run Focal 20.04 version of UT. There is little point in putting time and effort into new 16.04ports which is going into maintenance mode.
-
@b4t54ndw1ch Also I have removed your link as it looks like a phone selling site making your post look like spam. Plus links to direct sites we have no control or are unrelated to us are never a good idea.
-
@b4t54ndw1ch You might want to convert certain sites to dark by using the Firefox extension "Dark Background and Light Text". Looks like this:
(I'm loitering here because I wait for a stable release to put on my otherwise unused sargo. Its because I want to test if I can possibly move even further away from the duopoly than by using LineqgeOS)
-
@talpa There is a stable 16.04 channel for Sargo already and the RC channel for 20.04 works well though not as many apps are ready for 20.04 yet.

Yes I know about 16.04, but it's 20.04 what I am waiting for. Just forgot to write this. I'll just wait on as there is no urgency. Thank you for the hint nevertheless.

Okay, thank you for the notice. I figured I'd just put all of my stuff into this thread for now, since I started it and it';s easy for me to find, then move the notes over to the appropriate sections later, but it's all good.
I'll have to read up on the Focal version of UT. I haven't heard of it. Can you provide a link?

Noted. Thank you.

Thank you. I currently use Chrome for most everything, but I've been thinking of switching back to FF. It's been a while...like back before FF was written in Rust. Maybe Chrome has a similar extension. I'll have to check.

@b4t54ndw1ch There i s a 20.04 section on the Forum as a start https://forums.ubports.com/topic/8277/focal-fossa-more-information it is the next base version of Ubuntu that Ubuntu Touch will be based on.

I tried to respond to your question in the other thread but I don't have the privileges to reply to my post.
Anyway, I cut the link because of this:

Also, I even though the email was from Samsung, I have not personally checked the link yet.
Anyway, I just made a pic and edited the link so there would be no worry of anyone clicking on it.
I'm pretty sure you cracked the code though. The link you posted looks good.
-
I'll take a look at it. Thank you for the pointer!
Right now, I'm working with what hardware I already have on hand. Although the idea of working with one of these cheap, two-year old phones might not sound practical to some folks, well, I don't plan on buying a fancy phone any time soon but I'd still like to use Ubuntu Touch if I can.
Also, I think people would use it if they knew about it, if I get it done right.

@b4t54ndw1ch
Ok i get it. But link to source code from vendors can, i guess, be related to UT, UBports and porring ^^Also i asked @Lakotaubp for your privilege problem.

I tried to respond in the other thread but could not.
@lakotaubp said in Received a message from Samsung Open Source about the Galaxy A01 Linux kernel...:
@b4t54ndw1ch CAN please log out of the Forum restart the browser you are using login again and see if that fixes the problem as a first move. Thanks.
I tried. It didn't work. This is a pic of exactly what I'm seeing on my side:
Also, there is no reply button at the top nor on any of the subsequent threads. This only worked because I'm exploiting the Quote function.
I hope this is helpful.
My hunch is that it's some sort of permissions level that controls a style sheet element or something similar...the visibility and activation of the button. Probably a 'trust level' thing.
If (trustLevel === beenHereAWhile) {
showReplyButton();
}
else {
hideReplyButton();
}However it's done, something like that is my guess.
-
Also, note in the source code there are at least two different button groups.
Button Group 1
Button group 2
I haven't dug any deeper than this as there is likely nothing wrong with the site.
-
hello @b4t54ndw1ch, I remember something similar happened to me recently, have you tried a private window?
-
@b4t54ndw1ch Normally when I get this on occasionloging out shutting everything down including (Prob out of habit) pc/laptop/phone and restarting fixes it. If there is still an issue today I will push it further along on Monday
