Is there support for OP6?
-
Is there still support/development for OP6? If not, I personally will not go for this device right now and either choose different phone or different OS.
Explanation on my question:
After struggling into specific issues (20.04) like- calls not working
- camera crashing frequently
- time restore on reboot (including issue on browser)
- notification LED not working
- notch hiding notifier
without a solution yet, I would like to clarify one level "above" and see if there is still action on this phone.

@Hugehead The developer is in Ukraine and has been understandably very scarce and hard to get a hold of.
I'd recommend the P3a / P3aXL, or OP5T which are very well supported
-
@rocket2nfinity
Or Fairphone 4 ^^ -
@Hugehead AS @rocket2nfinity said the 3a is a good choice . I have used that as a daily driver and it is very reliable. Same with the Fairphone 4 mentioned by @Keneda . Have not tried OP5 on 20.04 as a daily driver yet but it does seem to work well and have good support. I cannot comment on Volla devices which are also the newer devices as I have never used one.

@rocket2nfinity
totally understandable. Thats why i am asking if there is support availble. Even if someone stops supporting device without any reason. I am totally fine. -
Thanks for your suggestions!
In general i was looking into the device page for OP6. checking the features, I felt OK with it. BUT it was not correct information, especially for 20.04 (explained above). So i was wondering if either it can be fixed or not. Just wanted to get answer to if its possible.
Looking at devices pages for OP6
and OP5T I couldnt see differences. Only torchlight vs fingerprintTo be honest, i am a little disappointed not because of the lacking support of OP6 (which is ok for whatever reason) but because the information I gathered upfront was not correct. I would be thankful if devices page for OP6 20.04 would hold this information.

Giving the information we have. Could one experienced member give me recommendation on if I should go further and try to solve the issues (like LED, ...) or just stop from here? I am not an experienced porter myself.
What I still have is :
- some action going on for OP6 in sound problem. seems like someone is actually doing something. I might get contact to him
- one of the 3 porters gave me a link to discord server where I could ask questions to OP6, he mentioned.
If the answer is to stop from here and issues on the OP6 are "solved" by recommending different device (please read without any irony), I guess the OP6 can be marked as end of life or we could mention in the devices page that the device (currently) has no porters/developers available?

I would not say support is dead, but fixes will come few and far between. The P3a/XL and OP5T are far better supported.
The OP6/T does have one major advantage - mainline linux support. I am running mine on gnome mobile via PostMarket. There have been some recent bugs because of recent inprovements, but the postmarket build runs better than the UT build for the device. Recently, gps and sensors have been made at least partially functional, and VoLTE is being worked on. There is effort to get the camera going but it's a lower priority. I think it is quite possible it will be the first fully functional mainlined android phone in a while. Your other option would be the Pinephones of course. They are VoLTE functional now, but have other bugs / pain points.
If you are looking for "just works", then the P3a/XL or OP5T will fit nicely. I do not have a Volla, nor Fairphone to compare with, so I will defer to someone who does.

@Hugehead We are always looking for people to take on testing and helping develop the OS and it would be very much appreciated. If so we can point you in the right direction. Taking on a port and keeping it going is a big commitment for anyone and availability/time changes as you have seen and not all ports advance and last.
As the info on the devices page, the people who put the page together rely on the correct information at the start and updates when it changes from the devs of each device. We are working on ways of making it clearer which devices are " Fully UBports" and which are "community ports" what the state of the port is and who to contact with any issues.
If it was say "fully UBports" you would contact us about anything related to the device and OS, at the other end it would really be back to the porter for device specific stuff. Bit of a simple outline but you can see the idea. -
Hi @Hugehead,
OnePlus 6 / 6T has support, there's already things you can make to bring back your calls, but we did not merged yet into the repo. We're investigating the root of the problem. Please visit if you're comfortable with flashing yourself images : https://gitlab.com/ubports/porting/community-ports/android9/oneplus-6/oneplus-enchilada-fajita
Plus, if you want to get in touch you can search us in Telegram: ubports_op6.

@ixsvf
Thank you for the answer. I saw that there something is going on at OP6 "no sound in calls".
Is there a link to some guide to flash images? -
Hi ,@Hugehead you can now try the fixes for OnePlus 6/6T just switch to the devel channel on SystemSettingsApp.
-
The problem I had with calls on 20.04 was the outgoing audio was just garbled noise. This has been fixed by the release on the devel channel.
Thanks for the heads-up. -
@radiofixr
It's fixed on the stable channel too (I just installed it and it's fine) -
There's still one fix that, sadly, did not find it's way into OTA-3. But it will ship with OTA-4.
On OTA-3, if you receive or make an call and you go for an app that uses the microphone will not capture sound. DialerApp remains ok.
A temporary workaround is already available in the Devel Channel.
