Volla OS (Volla Phone x23) to Ubuntu Touch
-
Hi All,
I have been using Volla OS on my Volla Phone x23 for a few months now. I really enjoy it, however I'm interested in switching to Ubuntu Touch. When I purchased the phone, it was said that these two operating systems could both be installed in a dual boot scenario. I followed all of the steps early on and it didn't seem to work for me, which is fine.
Recently however, I tried using UBports to simply switch over to Ubuntu Touch entirely. Everything seemed to work okay, until running into the following error:
Error: fastboot:flash: Error: Flashing failed: {"error":{"code":1}, "stderr":"FAILED (remote: 'No support by control')fastboot: error: Command failed"}
I've made several attempts since, with no luck. Any help on this matter would be much appreciated.
Thank you so much in advance!

I had ordered an x23 with volla os, but got an ubuntu touch. I have never regretted it, because ut runs well on the x23. there are still a few bugs, but it's enough for me as a daly driver.
Good luck -

@aaronm Just moved your post as it was in the wrong place.
-
@Lakotaubp My mistake, thank you.
-
@Charly That's great to hear, Charly! Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. I'm really hopeful to make the switch.

I have been using ut focal on volla x23 for half a year now and can probably tell you whether what is important to you works well or not. So ask me if you want. -
@Charly Really appreciate it, Charly. One thing I am wondering about is cellular service. With Volla OS in the US, I've noticed I often need to restart the phone in order to connect and receive messages. Apart from that, it's been okay. Have you noticed anything along those lines with UT?
Thanks a lot!

@aaronm
Sorry, but my experience is limited to Germany and neighboring countries. But there is a bug and a workaround. After the start, the x23 still can't use lte(4g). You have to go into flight mode first. Then LTE will work. -
@aaronm
Once again to your question. Since ota-3, the x23 has been stable in my opinion and regular restarts are no longer necessary. But there are limitations. The volume in a phone call can only be changed when using a headset -
@Charly That's very interesting about the LTE bit. From what you're describing, UT might actually work better for me service wise, with ota-3. As for the volume dilemma, I guess it's a small price to pay for more security, etc. Really hoping to give it a go.
How about Signal, Firefox, and Brave. Do you know if they run on UT?
Thank you again!

@aaronm
There are two native browsers on ut: morph and sapot. I am not aware of any adblockers. Native for signal is axolotl2, which currently only works as a second device. Android programs can also be executed via waydroid. But I can't say anything about this personally. -

There is one: uAdBlockNG.
-
@Charly Interesting. So if I used axolotl2 I may still need a separate device it sounds like. It's two bad the dualboot idea didn't work out.
Do you know if morph or sapot are considered secure browsers, in terms of privacy and so on?
Thanks a lot for the insights!

@aaronm
I hope the two ut browsers are safe. I get along well with morph and am always in private mode. With axolotl you can expect it to work as a full signal client at some point. But the signal apk should also be installable via waydroid. I have no experience of how well this works. -

I do! I use Signal in Waydroid as a primary installation, and Axolotl2 on bare metal as a secondary; for linking the two, there is an in between needed, I use my laptop for that.
Linking should only be needed once, and I'm not yet sure how often it's needed to run the primary installation.In daily life, I use Axolotl2, linked to Signal for Desktop on my laptop. Waydroid stays off.

@aaronm These are good things for me to know about, thanks again.
-
@aaronm That sounds like a nice work around, Moem. I too, use Signal on multiple devices. It's probably the most important app for me on a phone, for use with family and so on. Thanks a lot!

@aaronm Hey All, I have finally installed UT following this:
https://cloud.hallo-welt-systeme.de/s/He9ZsS7Kmn6X7CrI hear that UT is more secure that android and so on. Does this mean I am safer logging into my bank account, for example, using Morph on UT, vs firefox on android?
Thanks!
