I've always wondered if there's an organisation chart describing how the development (core) team is structured? Do you communicate on a matrix basis, or do you have a team leader (Alfred?) who coordinates the work?
In any case, thank you for all your amazing hard work! -
Hello friends!
If it is in the topic of the Q&A,
could you take a moment to explain once again the link between the version of Android originally installed on the smartphone (for the most part), the version of Halium and the porting of Ubuntu Touch to that same smartphone, it's still not very clear in my mind? Why does it take so much effort (which I applaud, by the way) to create an image adapted to the hardware?
Or could you point me to a place where this is explained? -

We are struggling with VoLTE ,what about VoWiFi. Is it possible to implement without VoLTE? But both are dependent on 4G service?
Service providers all over the world are interested in switch over to 4G/5G and discord 2G&3g services. We have to switch over to VoLTE,VoWiFi and further to VoNR soon for voice calls!? -
Android phones are inroduced with android 9 and then upgraded to next versions 10,11,12,13,14 and 15 with the same hardware. Similarly why not we upgrade UT devices with the same method to the next version?

Do Ubuntu touch has any mechanism to lock or unlock the bootloader to prevent uninstalling UT OS or installing some other OS.

I would appreciate a rough outline of what exactly the requirements are for installing Ubuntu Touch on a phone. For my phone (Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro) it only states "latest stock Android 10 firmware".
- Is it "stock" like unbranded Google stock android?
- Is it "stock" like Android 10 with MIUI? because that's the "stock" version on the phone
- Is it really just the firmware or including vendor, os and all the other partitions?
- Most custom firmwares say you should boot up the phone after downgrading, is this neccesary for ubuntu touch too?
- Maybe it would be useful to include such information (or even the whole down- / upgrade process) on the device page.
That one sentence (that's also way on the bottom of the page and doesn't stand out at all) leaves quite some room for interpretation.
especially for the folks like me that are not super experienced in custom firmware / flashing phones -stuff. -

Some android phones come with one version of android and will never get any other android update.
Ubuntu Touch comes with OTA updates, which are similar to "upgraded to next version".
Any phone that gets Ubuntu Touch officially (in installer) will get all updates.
My Nexus 5 dropped looooong ago by google for android updates, still got Ubuntu Touch updates up to the end of xenial support (more than 20 updates under xenial).Do Ubuntu touch has any mechanism to lock or unlock the bootloader to prevent uninstalling UT OS or installing some other OS.
No.

My question is like this: -
Is there any possibility for Ubuntu touch to adopt higher Android versions, not only stick around Android 9 and upgrade UT Installer as well.
Most UT phones rely on Android 9, while we have a variety of latest devices and mostly available in our countries we could get benefit from, instead of digging around old devices and hope they are functioning well.
For example, I have hardly found Pixel 3a XL and Google phone are not supported in my country and where I live.
Common phones such as Samsung and other Android devices exists here with service center in case of damage. Google phone do not have service center and not for sale officially.
I hope my message is clear !!!

@Salah This topic is kinda closed since the Q&A 151 already happened.
I advise you to wait for the next "Q&A call for questions".
Should be soon. -
