Missed OTA-7 upgrade
-
Hello all, unfortunately I've missed the OTA-7 upgrade because I constantly deferred it to tomorrow
. Can I now upgrade from OTA-6 to OTA-8 without any problems? I believe I can, but am not 100% sure. The real question is: Does OTA-8 contain all changes from OTA-7? Thanks in advance.

@bbiw Yes no problem at all. If you want to be extra safe make a backup of any important stuff first but there should be no issues.

Ok, but what about my "real" question? Does OTA-8 contain all changes from OTA-7? I'm a little bit confused, because OTA-7 was smaller than OTA-8 and in some cases, e.g. updating a program, I can leave out updates while in other cases I can not.

@bbiw If in doubt use the Installer to load the current 20.04, but make sure you don't tick the option to wipe user data. In fact as was mentioned above you are always advised to back up your data before any major changes to your system.

@bbiw OTA-7 gave you the latest stable version of UT at the time it was released. The next stable version OTA-8 is built on top of the changes made in OTA-7 so yes they are all there and included with OTA-8. Nothing missing just a few further updates and improvements. Exactly the same as if you flashed a new device using the installer. You will get the latest Stable version of UT 20.04

Thank god. That's what I wanted to hear
. If I remember right, the last time I tried with the installer this didn't work. I had to go back to Android (Fairphone OS) first and then install Ubuntu Touch again, because the installer didn't recognize the phone (as a valid one) when Ubuntu Touch is already installed. Thanks for the answers

@bbiw OTA updates can be either delta or full. Delta are smaller because it will only download the changes between your current version and the latest one. Full OTA updates are around 500+MB and will be offered to you when there's a lot of changes or it's been a while since you updated and you skipped a few updates.
In regards to the installer, you can manually select Fairphone 4 from the drop down if it's not automatically detected. In my experience, booting to recovery mode makes the installer detect the device more reliably.

It's been awhile since I've used the installer, it surely has changed since then. Thanks for the hints.
